You Expect StockBroker Earnings on a ShoeString Budget!
You cannot build a business with no budget! While building an affiliate empire with BANS is not expensive, it cannot be done for free!

You Don’t Research Your Niche!
Everything starts with Research! Just like every other aspect of a business, you have to do some basic research.

You Don’t Focus on Your Niche!
Just as bad as not researching your niche, straying from your niche market can be just as bad! Why confuse your visitors with information or Ads unrelated to your target buyers?

Your Spend Too Much Time on a Niche Paying Pennies versus Dollars!
If you can toss up a $10/sale site (0.25 cents commission) in a market with little to know competition, do it! Don’t however devote countless hours to the site expecting stellar earnings!

You have Too Much Content on your Sales Pages!
If you have a sales page on your BANS site with more than 150 “Related” words above the listings, put that junk on a content page! Just because you have the ability to add content to sales pages does not mean you have to do overdo it!

Your Site Looks like an Advertisement!
Do you have more banners and ads than you do product listings?

You Have Too FEW or Too MANY Categories on your Site!
Unless your site is about
USB Humping Dogs- you wont survive with 1 sales category! Likewise, having 750 pages in your sitemap is only good if they are all about your niche market!

You Don’t Make Changes to EVERY PAGE of Your Site!
Simple… If your site has 100 identical pages to another site, both lose!

You Don’t Promote Your Site, Even Just a Little!
Would you Build a physical store in the middle of North Dakota, 500 miles from ANYONE, without at least advertising that it exists? If you don’t promote your site just a little, why bother building it?

You Don’t Check Your Site Logs!
Links bring spiders… Spiders and Content bring visitors… Do you know

You Check Your Stats TOO Often!
How many times each day do you login to and check stats/earnings? Unless you ran a special promotion of some type, once a day is almost TOO MUCH! Besides, seeing that you earned $100 in a 3 days is alot more promising and encouraging than earning $3 at 8am, $2 at 10am, $6 at 9pm…. repeat every day!

You Think this is Too Hard for Someone with no Programming Experience!
If you can read this post - you can Build a Niche Store and start earning money! You didn’t know how to ride a bike until you tried and even then, you needed training wheels and fell off a few times!

You Give Up Too Soon!
This should have been #1, #4 and several others in the list of reasons you will fail! If you have not followed your plan for at least 6-12 months, you won’t know if it would have worked or not! Heck, it takes 9 months for a baby to come into the world… you MUST have staying power!

Your Site loads Too Slowly!
Count the “Mississippi’s” as your site loads. If you get to “5 Mississippi” you are losing more than just visitors, search engine spiders don’t like you either!

Your Target Keywords and Phrases are Too Generic!
Are you targeting common one-word terms like “phone” or “car”? If so, grab a ticket, get in line and come back in 15 years! Oh yeah, keep working on your site the entire time… and you may get in the top 100 before you come back!

Great list! I can’t wait to see the full posts on each item in this list.
Regarding a site’s load time, what do you suggest for those of us with high speed internet who can’t accurately guage the loading speed of normal internet speeds? I just upgraded to high speed but am aware I can no longer tell if my site is loaded slowly or not.

I used to live in North Dakota for 8 years. My wife grew up in North Dakota. Almost everyone in both of our immediate families currently lives in North Dakota. I know you were trying to make a point, but I don’t know why it had to come at the expense of North Dakota.

You never fail to keep me going. I’m getting started on my 2nd store and my first store has jumped from 30 unique visitors in april to over 150 in the first half of May. All the numbers are increasing (no sales yet on the EPN side of things) but I am trying my hardest to keep focus.
I am really excited to follow up on this post. As I have nothing to compare against the EPN, I’m sticking with you, rochelle, and some others to keep me positive!

Nice one Mark - I’ve been missing your mega BANS input over the last couple of weeks and and look forward to the new series - whats happening with the wrap up of the BANS Empire Series by the way?
On a kind of related note I only started with BANS at the end of March and have now put up 26 stores at least 10-15 pages on each being fully optimized (I do get to do this full time at the moment but I need a job). What is a typical period to get a store generating $50-$100 a month? Now I know that’s not a straightforward question but I’d appreciate your input.
There are certainly more reasons for failure than success. People tend to give up and make a excuse for that failure. The one common reason for success I see is not giving up. Even if you put down IM for a while you can come back to it later and your work is still there and stronger.

I know you put this info out for free Mark, So I am asking for the sake of those like me, would you update and finish the blueprint and then if you must put a price tag for getting the whole shebang. I am floundering wih 2 useless stores.

The stores I own that don’t do so great are ones that I haven’t really put any work into! So…I finally got myself a system of of printing out a store “to-do” list for each store and checking off what needs to be done, and then keeping them in a file so I can go through and see which store needs help first more easily.
I’ve gotten ahead of myself with stores (I’m always thinking of great niche ideas) so I’m taking a break from creating new stores to getting all of my current stores fully optimized before I steam ahead with more.
