Articles for April 2008
Assume for a moment, you are like the thousands of others (including myself) who launched BANS sites with a minimum of change. You probably:
Installed Site
Chose a Template
Chose a Main Category from eBay
Walked away!
Essentially, what you have a mini version of an eBay category! Nothing at all different than what eBay already offers and nothing different than hundreds or thousands of other BANS users in the same category. That is exactly how this next store was done and the video below walks through a few simple methods to take it to the next …
What could be easier than seeing it done?! The 18 minute video below walks through a complete step by step installation of the BANS Search Capture Mod. Since I know everyone has cPanel with their hosting accounts, I used the cPanel file manager to handle the upload as well as file editing.
Currently, the MOD is still limited to basic search, but I am hard at work to get all advanced and category search included. If you have advanced search on your site, the mod itself will still work just fine, but …
Earlier this week, I wrote a post about a new Build a Niche Store Search Mod… well, it’s ready for Prime Time!
Until now, there has really been no way to capitolize on what your site visitors are searching for! Sure, the search engines direct a user to your site, but what about those visitors who type something into your site search box?
By KNOWING what they are searching for, you gain that extra edge over your competition! Not only did they find your site, they told you what they want! With the BANS Search …
I know… kind of a harsh title to this post, but for those of us who blog about our daily money making activities or ANY activities on the web, we can expose ourselves without even realizing it!
Yesterday, I walked out to cut my lawn and right there in my driveway was a small black camera case. On the outside of the case in BIG BOLD letters it said “REWARD Call 704….” with the full phone number. I literally stood there for a full 2-3 minutes trying to figure out how the hell …
Hi all,
I’m afraid I’ve gotten behind in updates due to a visit from in-laws, updating to EPN, and now my upcoming camping trip (which we are leaving for as soon as I’ve posted this). Although I haven’t been updating each week I have still been making stores. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to focus much time on the last four sites so they are not as done as I’d like them to be. Next week I should be able to get back on track with each of them.
Good morning everyone! Well, it has been a couple days from hell… that’s the only way to say it. Late Sunday night, I walked into my office and heard a dreaded clicking noise coming from my development PC… 10 minutes later, one of my biggest fears had became a reality – I lost a hard drive! Fortunately, I had a full drive backup from early February, but there was still plenty on the drive since then, that is poof, gone forever!
Moving on… The reason for this post today is to …
Hi All -
I know… I’m burning the midnight oil tonight! I have just finished another Build a Niche Store site and wanted to post it here to get your feedback on it.
I should start by saying this site has a very customized template! I have however made it flexible enough to modify it for a few additional sites I have in mind for the near future. The good part about it all… is that it will end up being one of my most popular sites in a highly competitive niche… …
Someone brought to our attention that eBay is now requiring affiliates to use their (eBay’s) banners instead of using custom made banners. eBay’s TOS goes on to say that all custom banners must be approved before they can be used. Well, reading this made me sweat more than a little because I created my own banners that I use in each of my stores. I adjust the colors of the banners to match the color theme of each store so they blend in with the sites.
The day I joined eBay’s …
Hi All -
I just thought I would let you know that the slow load times, page errors and just about everything else you are currently experiencing on your Build a Niche Store sites, is related to an eBay feed issue. THIS IS NOT BANS RELATED and will likely be resolved very soon.
To verify, go to: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/traceroute/ and type rss.api.ebay.com into the trace window. You will see that the feed is timing out at several hops along the way.
At 2:45 ET – It is back up!

Hello all,
In an effort to organize my sites and make sure I’ve done the same things to each of them I created a Niche Store Checklist. If you think this will help you then you can download it from my blog here.
