An Idea SO BIG – I Can’t Handle it Myself!

Have you ever had one of those “What if” thoughts… you know the kind:

  1. What if major media got ahold of it?
  2. What if Bloggers found it interesting?
  3. What if a big corporation wanted it?
  4. What if I could talk to the right people about getting this off the ground?
  5. What if… what if…

Guess what – I have an Idea so BIG, I am a bit Afraid of it!

Not only am I afraid of the idea itself, I am afraid to talk about it much! If I get the right people involved… it will be an INSTANT SUCCESS! Lets look at a few things I already KNOW will happen:

In the Blogosphere…

This site would get picked up and talked about SO FAST, that it would need to be on a dedicated server from day 1, in order to handle the traffic! Bloggers around the world would sign on and grab the widgets that show they support the site! Not only would they show support themselves, they would encourage others to do the same!

In the Corporate World…

Not only would the Corporate world LOVE the site… they would actually encourage their employees to visit and sign up for email updates! Many large businesses would more than likely add the site feed to their intranet, showing the daily news to all employees!

In Mainstream Media…

Within days of go-live, mainstream media would be ringing the phone off the hook wanting to know how the idea got started! They too, would link to it from their own main websites, encouraging all readers to be involved!

DemoGraphics of the Idea…

The idea of this site will affect everyone from 10 years old to 90 years old! Men and women equally, regardless of income level or social status!

Backlinks Bonanza…

Within days of being live, there would be more .edu, .org, wiki, and just about EVERY other TLD backlink you can think of! Within 2 months, this site will be linked FROM GOOGLE HOME PAGE with a fancy little graphic, like they do on special occasions!

UNLIMITED PRIVATE FUNDING…

Imagine having an idea so widespread and popular that private corporations called YOU to be involved!

If you had an idea THIS BIG… how would you go about getting the right people involved? I have already registered the domain name for 5 years. Yes, I also got the .net, .org, etc… I imagine the next step involves registering the trademark…

Hmmm… what next? I’m actually not too sure at this point, but have every intent on launching this new idea by August 30th.

… to be continued

Hey Mark, don’t get too excited I had that idea last week.

Thanks Manuel – I am actually going to outsource quite a bit for this project, so I have your name bookmarked!!

@ Emme – LOL I know EXACTLY what you mean… it seems that everything has already been done! When I do a G search for what the primary target would be… there are actually 0 results, which is VERY shocking… as everyone will see when I reveal the site!

I have been on the web since 1992 and not much surprises me – this did!!

I LOVE your homepage theme BTW… and yes, Grammar Girl Is Hot!

    Mark,

I am a fulltime internet businessman since Nov, 2006. I am actually a mechanical engineer by trade and have held senior management positions with Fortune 100 companies. Bla Bla Bla. So what? I might be willing to invest substantial cash if I knew some of the details. I am a direct marketer with proven copyrighting experience since 1989 plus I know Adobe CS3 pretty well. If your idea is real, I would be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement for you to share your idea with me and see if I would be willing to finance it or assist in some capacity that gave a percentage of the profits. The confidentiality agreement would prevent me from stealing your idea.

    Mark,

Just put that idea aside. You don’t have time for it regardless of how big it could be. Get back to work on new WP/BANS templates for us. :-D

Just kidding – looking forward to hearing more.

    Mark,

I found your post incredibly interesting for more reasons than 1.

I too am in partnership with someone with the ‘idea of the century’ but we just don’t know how to move forward.

In our opinion our idea also meets all your criteria listed at the top of the post, so I will be really interested in what you’re doing and more importantly how your going about it.

You know….quite often these idea’s only come once in a lifetime…if you’re lucky.

    I wish us both luck

    Cheers

@ Randy – I definitely appreciate the offer my friend! I am reviewing some of my options now, including making sure the entire concept is not trademarked. It is very similar to an old school media method.

@ Shelley – We need to share our experiences going forward… I know I am going to make a few mistakes, which I will discuss on this site.

@ All – Sorry about making you wonder… I will actually reveal it soon and many will say… “What the heck was the Hype for?” Fortunately, they will say that right before they sign up to support it! (Not with money…)
