Another Build a Niche Store Update Released

As many of you know by now… another update for Build a Niche Store 3.0 was released earlier this afternoon. Depending on whether you use the specific affected features, will determine if you need to apply the patch or not. This patch fixes:

1. The “View More Items On eBay” link is not passing over a search query.

2. The bottom two images of Product Layout 5 appear to have a different background color which is passed over from the navigation css code. There was also an issue without Product Layout 4 and 5 where an odd number of products caused a space at the very end of the items displayed which then caused the “Next Page” and “View More Items On eBay” link to sit inside this space rather than underneath the entire product display box.

3. The new “Staggered” navigation layout is missing the “selected” css code.

On my stores…

1) I don’t use the View More… link.
2) I DO use product layout 5, but I noticed the issue last week and made sure I selected an even number of product listings, so it will not affect the site. In other words, if it is 3 products wide, make sure your number of products per page is a multiple of the columns… this alleviates the start of a new row for a single product, the the issue doesn’t appear.
3) I don’t use the staggered navigation.

Due to the reasons above.. I am not going to apply the patch to existing stores. I WILL however make sure I have it in place in my RAWBANS folder so it is in place for all new stores that are launched.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks again for all the great info. I have two questions, I noticed on your new site – Family Guy DVD’s that you don’t have any ebay logos anywhere. I thought I read somewhere that we have to have something that tells the shopper they are being directed to ebay. Is this why you don’t use the view more items, are you removing most of the ebay info from the page? What’s you take on this?
Also, is there a way to change the colors in the free templates, if I wanted a little lighter colors, could I do it myself just by changing the color codes?

    Thanks,
    Yvette

    @ Yvette -

Thanks for the comment! The Family Guy Store is a site I am doing a bit of work on for the store owner… His work, I am just helping with some of the optimization.

I do however hide as much eBay info as possible ONLY to remove the “footprint” that can be seen on so many other niche sites. Changing the footprint can be as small as using a different “eBay” image, changing the Powered By Build a Niche Store text, or the Find more items on eBay link. The MORE you make your site different than the hundreds of others… the better off you are.

In regard to the new templates, the colors are somewhat controlled by the images for the site. If you have an image editor, you can change the colors with filters in your software.

Thanks Mark, so are you saying that there isn’t any hard and fast affiliate rule that says we have to broadcast on the page that the customer is going to Ebay?

I don’t have an image editor, any chance of doing a few more versions of the template in some softer colors for the more feminine products stores? I know you are very busy, but just thought I would ask.

Thanks again for all the info and I really mean it, I have learned so much and I would be floundering without you and Rochelle’s great info.

First commission today too – Hurray! My first store has been up for 2 weeks so I’m ecstatic.

    All the best,
    Yvette
