Google & Amazon Partner Up On the Blogger Platform!

Let me see if I can put the right introductions in place with this post – so everyone will realize the Impact. A post jumped into my reader from Problogger, Darren Rowse… The news is actually HUGE – since it will open doors people never even considered! Not people like you and I that are familiar with monetizing our blogs… but hundreds of thousands of others, who have never even considered it!

Google – the worlds most popular search engine, with more than 78% of the market in its control, and Blogger.com, the worlds most widely used free hosted blogging platform, partnered today with another leader in the online world. Amazon.

The partnership now adds a new function to the blogger.com platform, allowing bloggers to integrate Amazon ads directly into their blog posts, with no outside plugins or scripts needed.

Until now,l you had to make use of widgets, or direct code placement to get the Amazon product ads into your blogger-blog. Adsense was the only option under the monetize tab.

Hmmm… I wonder what kind of traffic effect this will have for Amazon? More importantly, I wonder if the widespread availability of a “Pay for Performance” affiliate program, may have eBay second guessing their choice to go rogue on a platform of their own.

Then again – eBay may be the next one in line to make use of the Blogger monetization tab! Doubt it though, they refuse to allow their visitors the option of purchasing with Google Checkout, and that’s a huge stumbling point between Google and eBay.

Will you use the Amazon tab?

And I bet it will give Amazon a boost in the search engines (not that they need it), I very much doubt the text links will contain a nofollow.

They could eliminate even more competition with this as many bloggers begin to use it.

Great deal for Amazon and Google I’d say. Isn’t it interesting though that to Amazon a click is a click and a sale a sale? They don’t worry about quality of traffic, quality of site etc. And to me that makes sense. If I make a sale do I really care where the traffic came from? Nope. Any legitimate sales are gratefully received and so what if they buy a different product. Amazon unlike eBay seem to like affiliates. eBay take note.

@ Dave – Actually, the links will probably be fed through a script and route through Googles’ own tracking mechanism first. Probably nofollowed, although Amazon needs no link relevance! :-O

@ Tao – Been there and tried that as well… I just dislike building ANYTHING on real estate I don’t own!

Building a site in blogspot is like building a mansion on a rented piece of ground. If the ground owner decides to sell it to someone else, your mansion is worthless. I do see it working for many people, it’s just not for me.

    Here-here Mike… Agree completely!

I love it. As eBay continues to get stingy and alienate more and more affiliates, Amazon is continuing to open up and drive even more traffic to them by being more affiliate friendly.

The crazies are in charge at eBay that’s for sure.

Personally, I’ve only ever used Blogger once and I hated it so unfortunately this isn’t going to be an opportunity I’m going to take advantage of. But I do think that there will be a lot of people out there who will benefit from it for sure.

Interesting. I hope this bodes well for Amazon as an affiliate program. By that, I mean that I hope they aren’t going to do a 180, ala eBay.

Like so many here, I don’t use blogger. I agree with Mark. I’d rather have a piece of cyberspace that own and don’t have to worry about being taken away from me on a whim.

    What?!

You can use your own domain with blogger, so what is the issue?
