BANS Template for WordPress - Simple CSS

July 12, 2008

SimpleCSS BANS WordPress TemplateAs I mentioned in my post yesterday about the newest BANS Template for WordPress, the SimpleCSS Theme pack is ready for purchase on the Templates page!

This theme is actually a great starting point for anyone who may want to try and do a bit of template editing on their own as well, since it is very basic css driven, with the exception of the BANS code. Like the Flex-BANS Template, there are no changes to the actual Build a Niche Store software… you just drop in the theme package, configure a few bits of code, and you are on your way!

I have included 2 full versions in this package as well…

  1. BANS-Blog: (preview site) Contains all files to incorporate a seamless integration of BANS with WordPress, on either an existing site, or any site that you just prefer to have your Build a Niche Store as the landing page for the domain. Ex: mywebsite .com/ (brings up BANS site) mywebsite .com/blog/ (brings up the blog)
  2. Blog-BANS: (preview site) Contains all files to use the blog as your home page and use Build a Niche Store in a site folder or directory. Ex: mydomain .com/ (brings up wordpress) mydomain .com/store/ (brings up BANS store)

The logo included with the theme is made to be replaced with your own! It is set as a background image of the header section in the css file and can be changed as you see fit. The image is currently 400 x 125 pixels, the header section is 968 x 125, so you have flexability in the logo section, or use no logo at all!

Just a Few Features of the Theme Pack

  1. FAST LOADING! The amount of the code behind this template was reduced to allow fast site loading!
  2. Seamless integration between Build a Niche Store and WordPress!
  3. 5 Widgetized Sidebars - You have the ability to add as much content as you wish with this theme, directly inside of wordpress!
  4. No Touch BANS Code - None of the BANS files were changed! ANY future updates are compatible!
  5. Cross Browser Compatible!

With previous versions, I have included plugins as part of the theme package. I feel it is best for you to download and choose which you prefer to install. I do recommend the following:

  1. All-In-One SEO For WordPress
This plugin adds three fields to all of your posts for SEO optimized meta-information.
  2. aLinks
The aLinks plugin enables you to define a word or phrase for a link. Anytime that exact word or phrase appears in the content of one of your posts, aLinks automatically links it to the section you described. For example, you can create an aLinks instance for the word “hybrid car” and provide a link to the category within your BANS store. ANY time that phrase appears in one of your posts, it is automatically linked to the page you setup! This plugin is a HUGE timesaver!
  3. cForms for WordPress
Allows you to create contact, link exchange, or literally ANY type of forms on your site!
  4. Google xml Sitemaps
    Self explanatory!
  5. WordPress Privacy Policy Generator
The all elusive privacy policy for our websites. With this plugin, you click a link… create a page… and you are done!
  6. Redirection Plugin
This plugin is most useful for those wanting to move an existing BANS site off the root of the domain into its own store folder. You simple visit the log generated within this plugin, see what pages were opened with no result and redirect them to the new location! If you have a site with less than 25-30 pages indexed and want to add a blog to the site, you can actually redirect EVERY indexed page to the new location with this plugin, in less than 30 minutes!

Directions for installing the theme are included with the zip download, however, if you prefer to review them first, they are found below:

This theme is ready for immediate purchase and download on our BANS Templates page for the cost of $29.00, which includes unlimited usage.

Update: There was a few small bugs found after this template was originally released - Please see the bug report page for followup. If you are downloading for the first time, all bugs have been corrected.

Very excited to dig into this one!

Thanks for the great work Mark!

Id like to see what people do with this one. If someone can modify the bans default templates they will be able to step it up a notch with this one.

    Thanks Mark

Another great template. I’ve bought it and am excited to get to work with it.

One question - will this work on existing BANS sites if they are in EPN 2.0 or 1.3? Or only for 3.0 sites?

I have some old sites that could use a template refresh, but I never upgraded them to 3.0.

BANS Template for WordPress - Simple CSS

    Mark..

I see a lot of white spaces when I preview your Get a Race Car site..

How could we fill those space as it would in my opinion make the site look more professional…

    Thanks David

  5. Mark on July 13th, 2008 11:07 am

    @ Susan -

It has only been setup on a 3.0 store, but 2.0 should work fine… as the layout is the same. The only caveat is the lack of staggered menus, but open and closed are there.

    @ David -

I’m right there with ya… I just converted the Race Car site yesterday with the install video… over the next few days, I will use the widget-sidebars and content areas to add more content.

Where are your templates listed on e-junkie. I can’t track them down.

    Mark,

Do you know how the WP Google Sitemaps plugin works with the store pages? Does it self generate a site map for the Bans store pages? Does the plugin work differently if WP is in the root or a folder?

    Thanks,

    Randy

    Hey Mark!

Just bought the template and am using it to upgrade a form BANS only site.

Everything is going smoothly except for a small thing. I made some modifications to “Sidebar 2″ (added Recent posts). The strange thing is that when viewing from the store it looks as expected (except a missing “Home” link) but on the blog site only the default comes up.

    See:
    Blog - http://my-diet-program.com/blog/
    Store - http://my-diet-program.com/

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Thrandur

    Hey Mark!

Just bought the template and have set it up. Everything going smoothly so far.

One thing that I am wondering about are the sidebars. It seems to be that the blog sidebar can’t be changed (works as expected for the store).

Notice that “Recent Posts” are visible here but not on blogs.

Any idea how to fix this?

    All the best,
    Thrandur

I have a question for those with dot info domains. Are there any expectations that by converting a plain bans site to a blog with a bans section that they may get re-indexed by Google? I unfortunately lost a bunch of dot infos and am considering this theme to possibly rework them???

  11. Randy on July 14th, 2008 12:51 am

    Dear Mark,

I am having the same problems Thrandur is having. Any suggestions?

    Randy

  12. Randy on July 14th, 2008 2:23 am

This is a great template and Mark has to be commended. However, there really are a lot of bugs I am sure Mark will work out over the next several weeks.

    @ All -

I apologize for any problems anyone may have experienced with the template…

Right now, I have seen the issue of the home page link in the blog… and will resolve this morning.

Please list any others here so I can get them worked out.

This was tested pretty extensively by myself and one other person, having more use it finds things we never though of!

    Mark

  14. Thrandur on July 14th, 2008 11:52 am

Thanks for the quick update on this, Mark. Glad to hear this is something you will resolve.

  15. Mike on July 14th, 2008 4:48 pm

I moved an existing v3.0 BANS site to a subfolder, installed WP at the root and added the simplecss templates.

    http://www.mysite.com = WP
    http://www.mysite.com/store = BANS

Everything looks good so far except the URL for the store pages looks something like this:

    http://www.mysite.com/store/Store/my-storepage

I’m missing something simple here. How do I get rid of the extra “Store”?

    Thanks

    Mike

  16. Mark on July 15th, 2008 1:10 pm

    @ Thrandur -

I just wanted to follow up on what you are seeing in your site… I assume you have set “Widget Sidebar #2″ to contain your adsense code.

Did you also include the pages & categories widgets as well? The template is set by default to use the pages / categories if a sidebar does not exist.

If the sidebar DOES exist, skip everything and show the sidebar.

    Mark

  17. Thrandur on July 15th, 2008 8:27 pm

No - I actually set the adsense on sidebar #1! Somehow it comes out right on the BANS side but not on the blog. Just compare the two and see how things get mixed up…

    Nobody else seen this happen?

    All the best,
    Thrandur

I love the template, but I’m having the opposite problem from the one others have mentioned. It may be because I have my store in the root and the blog in a folder.

Both menus show up in the blog, but only the store menu shows up in the store. I did the install twice from scratch to make sure I was not making a dumb mistake, but it came out the same both times.

    Thanks

    @ Lee -

I am heading out the door in a moment, but use the contact form and shoot me the url.

  21. Bill G on August 11th, 2008 9:41 pm
