I have decided to try something a bit different this week - Video! If it doesn’t work out, at least I have time to continue writing the posts! In addition to the video, I have decided to really push hard and get several weeks worth of information compressed into each week and in front of you, the readers! I think it may be moving a bit slow for now… and if I can complete each phase quicker, people can follow with their own available time, taking the full 12 weeks if they choose to work just one hour a day, which is what the program is designed around. By the end of this week, you can expect to see several more weeks of instruction completed in video format!

Hey Mark,
I watched your video. The video and the BANS manual will get you going - nice compliment to the manual.
It stopped at 31:34 - indications were that there was some time left, but wanted to let you know that it didn’t get to the end.
Great video, good instructions and easy to follow. I had forgotten to secure some of my sites. Thank You

Well it has certainly been a learning experience so far, and I’m really looking forward to what’s in store.
I set up my ebay ,CJ, hosting, domain, uploaded the script, set up the hosting, and dabbled with the site settings. I am not going to fool with that too mich. I’ll wait for instructions.
While doing research for my niche, I decided to turn my direction from the first general niche to a new one. I regisered the second domain, and pointed it to hostgator.
What I do not know how to do is add it so i can build a second
(all though this will be the first I will build) to my hosting acct, and to the build a niche so I can work with it in the admin panel.
Perhaps i am getting ahead of myself, but this second domain is he one I want to learn with.
Any help from the group would be appreciated.

Len,
There should be a place in your CPanel for your hostgator account that says “Add Domains”. Click on that and it will pretty much walk you through adding another domain to your account.

Mark,
Can you go a little more in-depth into an explanation about the indexing security thing? I’m going back through my Hostgator account and doing this to all my add-on domains and subdomains but since they are not all BANS sites, I’m finding different things and am not sure what I’m looking at.
I have sites that are built using WP as well as XSitePro. The WP sites have the wp-admin etc folders at the cgi-bin level so is that what I need to turn off? The XSP sites only contain the cgi-bin folder and nothing else. Do I just turn the indexes off at the domain folder location (that is, to encompass “everything”)?
I’m really confused as to what controls what where. Thanks!
Cindy
@ Cindy -
In regards to indexes… here are two good examples:
Go to this address: http://www.colonfit.com/themes/ As you can see, if you really wanted to grab all the image and contents of the css file in my custom template, it wouldn’t be too hard!
Alternatively, at: http://www.getaracecar.com/themes/ the site will not allow you to get in.
By default, any time a server goes into a new folder or directory, it looks for an index file (index.htm, index.php, etc) If no index file exists, it will generally show a listing of the directory contents, like the first link above.
If your folders HAVE an index file, no need to protect, but it wont hurt if you do. If your directories (like BANS Cont, themes, and Scripts etc) DONT have an index file… it only takes a second to secure them.

Hi
Does your PID number change with each site you register with CJ?
What if you want to use your PID number in other sites that are not registered with CJ?
Thanks
Andy
@ Andy -
EVERY time you build a new niche store, you should enter the site into info CJ and get a new PID number for that specific site. You DO NOT need to reapply for the eBay program, each new site is automatically accepted based on your original.
The separate site PID codes allow you to track site performance individually.

Excellent video - wish I had it when I installed my first store.
But it raised a few questions: I installed that first store several months back and used the video to help install a second store today. If at all possible, can you do a second video that walks you through the second, third, etc. sites? I added quite a few gray hairs with the confusion over which files to upload and where.
A few questions:
1) Beyond “saving server space,” why would I delete the db (database.sql) that I just created - or am I missing something?
2) Most importantly, I can’t find the admin panel for this second/new site. I can easily get to the panel for the first - but where’s the new bans control panel?
3) It seems to be working, but can you confirm that when creating a second (or third) site, that the files (cont folder, index.php, themes, scripts folder, etc.) are to be copied not to the “public html” folder specifically, but directly to the folder (now within the public html folder) with the same name as the new site? (The folder I assume was placed there automatically by HostGator.)
Thanks again - I’m loving the series…
@ Keith -
I will be doing several of the videos over due to a sound issue I did not find until they were all live.
To briefly answer your questions:
1) The server space is the only reason I delete mine. It is just an extra 2.25 megs of space on the box, truly, just my own preference.
2) In regard to your second site, there is no separate cPanel admin. The BANS admin however is just like your original store. Once domain propagation takes place, you should be able to to go mysite.com/admin/
3) For ALL add-on domains, hostgator creates a folder in the main public_html directory. That folder is the root directory of your new add on domain. ALL BANS files need to go inside, just like it was your public_html folder.

Mark,
Just a note that I couldn’t hear the video at all…the volume was very low and I had everything turned up and still couldn’t make out what you were saying.
Hey Mark
Just finished going through the video and I’m so thrilled that you made all of this part of the process so simple - it’s the part I wasn’t looking forward to, having read the BANS manual. I’m a visual learner, so being able to see exactly what you were doing was fantastic. I can’t believe I’ve achieved so much in front of the tv! I managed to hang out with my husband, pet the cat a little, catch a movie and get all of this done at the same time. It really is a joy to listen to you talk and show us through it. I only had to check the manual once when the video skipped a little.
Thanks again!
Sorry, Mark, I meant to say in the last post - if you could give a reminder when to fill in the blueprint at each stage it would be helpful - I nearly missed a bunch of stuff this evening (maybe because I was multi-tasking…) but sometimes, being a first-timer, I wasn’t sure when to write stuff down and where exactly it should go - I’m sure your blueprint makes total sense to you, but to a newbie it may not be exactly obvious what to do in each section.
Anyway, just a thought - totally loving it still!
Thanks.

Mark, thanks you very much for your great help!
I’ve got a dilemma. I don’t know if it is better to concetrate on one small niche within a category or create a store for a whole category?
Thanks again,
Rita
