Build a Niche Store Website is Down

As many of you know, the BANS website was down today. In a nutshell, there was a corruption on the Build a Niche Store server that caused the site, forums, etc to be down for quite some time.

Adam and Kelvin are working on it right now and should have it back up ASAP. (its the middle of the night in the UK)

In the meantime, you may see an “Account Suspended” message when you login to your own stores! Don’t fret, this is a result of the BANS News and Recommended Stories section of your main administration page drawing from their server. Of course, since their server is down, your admin cannot pull the file for you to see.

This DOES NOT AFFECT your BANS sites in any way, except that main admin page error.

It should be back up shortly…

Mark

Yea that was a nice Phishing site that was up instead of the main page this morning. Hope no one tried to log into their “bank” from it =)

I think it’d be nice to have another BANS forum away from the main one. Mostly to separate the “support” stuff from the SEO/promotion stuff.

Maybe a mailing list where we can talk about making money with BANS rather than explaining for the umpteenth time how to edit Title tags.

I must admit to having a heart flutter when I saw the account suspened message

I have to admit that I cleaned my all interent temp files, cookies, history (which of course didn’t help) – everything – and couldn’t remember later a few passwords :)

Is it somehow related to the fact that hostgator servers were attacked by hackers and were down for some time today? Techie from Hostgator first said that MY server is being attacked and my heart fell – I must have stepped on somebody’s toe and they’re after my BANS sites – “luckily” somebody else was unlucky and my sites just happened to be on the same hostgator server :)

    Cheers,

Sounds like it’s time for me to go backup my sites as I’m a bit behind on this…

    Mark,

I was going to ask you about back-up. Could you go over the proper way to back-up our stores and DB’s.

I second that! I don’t know how to do a proper “backup” of my BANS site either!

…I’m sure Rochelle will have some phenominal, detailed intructions on her site in no time! :D

    @ All…

Rochelle has done two posts already on backing up your site and database.

Thanks so much, Mark – once again you post the right stuff at the right time that saves me a lot of faffing around and heartache. You rule!

The BANS website is down once again. Not that upsetting, I know the boys are working hard to put these problems behind them.

It is a little disconcerting in light of the eBay/CJ shake-up just announced. Read the email from eBay, went to login the BANS forum to get some reassurance that a v3.1, if nessesary, can be hammered out in time, and no forum…

Thanks to Mark for this blog and this thread in particular so we’re not all totally cut off from what’s going on.

    @ Glenn -

Adam and Kelvin made some DNS changes to their host name over the past 24-36 hours. This allowed them to at least get email and put up the message about the site being down…

Its wierd – I can access the site with no issues from my home, but in here at my office, I get the page still message. It is very sporadic and will likely resolve shortly…

    :-)

I hear ya on the CJ/eBay message, but I actually see it as a VERY GOOD change for us! Pulls the middle-man out of the equation.

I think it’s good news for eBay affiliates in the long term. Now that I’ve read my email from Adam & Kelvin I’m resting easier about the migration, too.

…kinda glad now I’ve been building slow instead of slapping up 4 or 5 stores a day. :)
