Building REAL Traffic for Your Niche Site

September 24, 2007

Someone will probably ask me why I used the word “Real” in the title of this niche site traffic generation post. There is a BIG difference between “buying hits” and generating real, targeted traffic through SEO, networking, and other resources. Just ask yourself, do you want to pay someone $59.00 to send 10,000 one time visitors to your niche site regardless of whether the visitor has interest or not, or would you rather spend no money, and work on long term TARGETED traffic? The answer is somewhere in the middle, but for long term growth you will want to focus on what it takes to make ANY website a hit! If you find that one special list of 10,000 people looking for your niche widget, it may be worth testing and tracking your results!

Assuming you have already done the Research for your Niche Store Keywords, and completed your Niche Store Search Optimization, you have the site all dressed up and ready to drive buyers through your affiliate pages with a credit card in hand, what can you do next?

Take Advantage of what you already do - Make a Signature!
Think of all the places you network right now. Do you post on forums? Do you have a Blog? If so, take 5 minutes to write yourself a signature for all your posts. Many forums encourage the search engines to index them… why not use these resources to help direct traffic to you at the same time? You may also find that many of the other forum visitors may have an interest in your niche and now they can find it!

Take Advantage of what you have already done - Use your Portfolio!
Do you already have an active website somewhere? Whether your site is about green golf balls or round robin rims, if it has already been indexed and regularly visited by the robots, why not post up a keyword rich anchor link or two? I have a PR4 page that is indexed daily… I post a link on the main page today and chances are very good that it will be followed within 24-48 hours! After the new site has been active for a month, I just move that link to a different section (resources) of the same PR4 website and replace it with another.

Take Advantage of your Existing BANS Sites!
Just like using your existing static websites - why not use the footer section of your other Niche Store sites to create a “You Might Also Like” section? Include links to your newer Niche sites and start your own little web-ring of sorts! That being said - it has been said that too much cross linking on the same server is considered spam by the search engines. If you have 5-10 Niche sites on one hosted account, no problem… if you have 100, you may want to avoid using too many on one box!

Take Advantage of eBay!
Since most of the readers here are using the Best eBay Affiliate Program, Build a Niche Store, I am confident almost everyone has sold something on eBay in the past. If you are still selling on eBay, take advantage of the fact that they allow the use of one external link per auction, as long as it points to a page that offers more info on the product! Get yourself a pdf generator like PDF995, once you have written your eBay description, generate a pdf with the same info and upload it to a folder on your niche store server. Within your eBay auction, use some keyword rich anchor text and set a link to open your pdf in a new window! eBay has very good presence within the search engines and almost every auction is indexed within hours of being created, you now have a free backlink that carries domain level weight!

Take Advantage of Article Directories!
Be original, be creative, be the best that you can be! :-) Most of all though, be unique! Set yourself a couple days to sit down and write an interesting article about your niche! Put yourself into the prospective readers chair and try to immerse the reader into your article - make them want to read more - finally making them want to click the link at the bottom! I suggest waiting until you have completed the article before ever writing a title, and once you do get to the title, keep it focused on why they should read it.

Think Outside the Box!
Back in my days of retail sales management - I would often carry a stack of business cards everywhere I went! If I was having lunch, I would leave a few inside the menu for the next person dining… If I was at the UPS store, I dropped a few on the counter. Barber shop… you guessed it, I always stuck a few onto the bulletin board! The point is… just because your business is on the internet, don’t limit your advertising to the web only! For example: If your niche is in the Used Laptop Marker, why not make an 8×11 sheet of paper saying “USED LAPTOPS - CHEAP!” The place your web address at the bottom on some of those cut-off style pull tabs? Print off 10 copies and post them wherever you may go that has a bulletin board! If someone throws it away… so be it, 2 minutes lost! If you get into a College dorm, or a senior center though… you may be surprised how many type-ins you get!

If you want to measure your results - use a unique URL on each different sheet of paper and keep track of the hits!

Become active in the Niche Blog Community!
Surely, there is 1 blog or 100 about your niche! From lego’s to lamborghini’s, there are many blogs for every taste, if not, start one! Become actively involved in the topics AND MOST IMPORTANTLY participate! People will read what you have to say and most of them will visit your site!

Start a Link Exhange
Once you have visitors coming, don’t fall into the trap of avoiding links to their sites! Many people think… I don’t want to lead visitors AWAY from my website to someone else! Avoid that thinking and start an active link exhange with other niche related sites. Believe it or not, the search engines notice that you have linked to other authority type sites within your niche and may actually give yours a bit of back-credit!

There are many more things you can do to build your online niche presence for long term growth. The most important thing to keep on your mind 100% of the time is that this is not a “Put it up and you will succeed” internet any longer. EVERY website takes time to grow and nurture before it will reap any benefits of being successful - the amount of time you put into that site will directly coorelate the results you see in the end!

    (third try)
squidoo.com has been an ideal source of good quality, qualified traffic for my BANs sites. Squidoo lenses can be created in under one hour and high, stable search engine ranking in Google, YAhoo, and MSN can be achieved if the correct steps are taken. It helps to post to sites like digg.com and Delicious to speed up indexing in Squidoo.
