BANS - Blog Template Pack! BANS Flex Theme

June 25, 2008 | 47 Comments

BANS WordPress Template PluginHere is the first of MANY BANS templates for WordPress that will be released over the coming months. This template has been tested pretty in-depth with BANS 3.0 EPN and version 2.5.1 of WordPress. To learn more about the template click on the BANS WordPress Template post from a couple days ago.Note: This template package is designed to work on NEW SITES hosted at HostGator for now. While it is still an easy process to modify an existing site to work with this, I prefer to skip over that process for now and focus on new stores only. At some point in the coming weeks, I will be providing direction on using this and other templates on an existing site.

The installation directions are located here (Directions edited 06/29/08 to reflect includes error) if you prefer to see the challenge ahead of you before getting started with this, but overall, it is fairly quick and easy to do. Please note that more than half of the instructions are explaining how to upload to the right folders etc, so if you are somewhat aware of that process already, this should take less than 1 hour from start to finish… on a brand new site!

I will also be posting a video of the start<->finish process before the end of the day!

There are 2 Options for this theme package:

Buy Now $29.00 -  The theme package, which includes all files for the WordPress Theme and BANS WordPress Template.
(Clicking the buy now button will take you directly to paypal)

Buy Now$60.00 - Everything above, plus installation. If you choose installation, after payment is completed, you will be directed to a form to submit your site details. I can usually get the site installed within 1-2 business days.

Please note that I will need to verify you already own the Build a Niche Store software before installing on your account. The template pack does NOT include the BANS affiliate software. The form page after purchase will have the required field of information to validate your purchase. If you already have BANS sites installed on the hosting account, I will be able to see them in the cPanel as well.

Once you have the template installed, I would love to see links to it from this post.

Edit: 06/29/08

I have made a few minor changes to the code of the files to correct the include issues some of you were experiencing. If you would prefer a fresh download, please email me using the contact form above, along with the email address you used for purchase. The current download files are already updated.

BANS Sitemap Issues - Resolved

June 25, 2008 | 10 Comments

Hi All -

Lately, if you log into your Google Webmaster tools, you have seen this dreaded warning next to your sitemap file:

All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority.
All the URLs in your Sitemap are set to the same priority (not the default priority). Priority indicates the importance of a particular URL relative to other URLs on your site, and doesn’t impact your site’s performance in search results. If all URLs have the same priority, Google can’t tell which are more important.

Sonjay, a Moderator on the BANS forum and Master of Website Design and Development, has written the solution and posted a new sitemap.php file with the fix. You can download the zip version here, and replace the sitemap.php file in to main folder of your bans site.

Add a ‘Contact Us’ Form to Your Site

April 25, 2008 | 14 Comments

Gosh, it’s quiet here without Mark. To help fill the void I decided to add this post.

To give your site more credibility you can add a ‘Contact Us’ form. You can read, ‘How to Add a ‘Contact Us’ Form to Your Site,’ located on my blog.

This mod is super easy to do (compared to other methods of adding a contact form), uses the email address you already entered in your site’s Admin, and helps protect you from having your email address harvested by spam collectors because it uses captcha.

Build a Niche Store Search Capture MOD Installation Video

April 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment

What could be easier than seeing it done?! The 18 minute video below walks through a complete step by step installation of the BANS Search Capture Mod. Since I know everyone has cPanel with their hosting accounts, I used the cPanel file manager to handle the upload as well as file editing.

Currently, the MOD is still limited to basic search, but I am hard at work to get all advanced and category search included. If you have advanced search on your site, the mod itself will still work just fine, but your advanced search box will not open. The fix for this is only going to involve one of the MOD files, so it will not require any editing when it is available. You will simply upload the new file and continue as if it never happened! :-)

Additionally, there is an active post in the forum discussing this MOD. Feel free to register, read or contribute!

Capture Visitor Search Data in your Build a Niche Store

April 12, 2008 | 14 Comments

Earlier this week, I wrote a post about a new Build a Niche Store Search Mod… well, it’s ready for Prime Time!

Until now, there has really been no way to capitolize on what your site visitors are searching for! Sure, the search engines direct a user to your site, but what about those visitors who type something into your site search box?

By KNOWING what they are searching for, you gain that extra edge over your competition! Not only did they find your site, they told you what they want! With the BANS Search Capture MOD, you now have full exposure to that important data AND the ability to turn them into another series of dynamic pages on your site!

Build a Niche Store Search Capture MOD Features:

  • Capture ALL Visitor Searches from your Onsite Search Box
  • Counts the Number of times a Phrase is Searched
  • Review All Phrases within BANS Admin
  • View All by Month / Active / InActive
  • Preview Search Results by clicking a Link, before making active on site.
  • Ability to Make Phrases Active / Inactive for Display on Website
  • Ability to Delete Phrases (Mis spell or oddball phrases)
  • Adds a Commonly Searched Terms on your Public Website that lead directly to your Product Search page

Once you have the MOD installed, just watch how much more info you enjoy from your visitors!

Cost: I would LOVE to leave this MOD as a freebie for all of you, but I have invested a bit of my own money into a coder for part of it. Therefore, I am going to leave it up to you to tell me how much it is worth to you! You are welcome to use it on as many of your own sites as you wish… I only ask that if you want to tell others about it, you direct them back to this page.

All you have to do to get this mod is go to Paypal via the link below and make a donation. Donations through Paypal will automatically be redirected to the download page for the zip file. Anything above $25 gets FREE INSTALLATION to one of your BANS sites!

04/12/08: Restricted Advanced Search - Being Worked Now
If your templates shows the “Advanced” search feature, it will not currently work and show the advanced options. I recommend holding off a day or two.
