Many of you may recall that after the Mayday failures at Google, I decided to use Bing as my default search engine. The results are not always perfect… but overall, I still find the results to be pretty good and as of right now… Bing is looking better every day!

I am NOT going to blow smoke up your butt and tell you that fixing on page factors …

Having a few sites being affected by the Google Mayday Update, I’m going to do my best to remain positive and look for solutions, versus loathing on the negatives and complaining about the lost traffic.
One of those positives I have found in the short several-day span… is that my reduced flow of traffic is converting MUCH BETTER! Someone is going to slap me for this… but it’s almost like Google is HELPING me! (Damn… I slapped myself, and I liked it!!)
With that in mind… I want to pick one site, and:

Anyone who has a site or two that was affected by the new Mayday algorithm change is surely looking for answers. All the search changes were part of the reason I Almost Quit last month, to focus more on local business. I have a few busy sites of my own sites that are down slightly in traffic, and finding answers is important to me also! :-)
First… Matt Cutts Video. (I posted this link last week, but in case you missed)

Many of you may notice that if you go back and view some of the older content on the site, you see adsense, or in some cases, adbrite (an adsense alternative) ads. You won’t however see it, if the content is less than 10 days old.
So… why am I showing ads based on the publish date and most importantly, how did I do it?
Why Show Date based Ads
It should not come as a surprise that I have a lot of indepth content on this site. Most articles are more than …

I think we can all agree that regardless of the fact Google using speed as a ranking factor, it will help us to learn how to speed up our websites.
In this post – that will be updated several times – I am going to take a very systemic approach to finding bottlenecks. From the DNS, to server, to WordPress, Plugins, Images and everything else that could affect your sites speed.
[Day 1 - Test Your DNS] [Day 2 - Base WordPress Installation]
The First Test – Trace Route and Eliminate the DNS

Matt Cutts announced on this on his blog Friday, and you can also read more at the Google Webmaster blog… Google now uses your websites Speed as a metric in how its ranked in search results… In other words, speed up your site, or we won’t send you traffic!
While Google says that this change affects less than 1% of the websites “It’s customers visit”, that’s quite a lot!
One other interesting thing this new “Speed Metric for Google” brings up, is that you MUST subscribe to Webmaster Tools in order to have …

So… you had an OK month on a specific site and after expenses, you were able to bank $500 of profit for your efforts… what are you going to spend that money on now? Disneyworld? A New Car? How about the site?
I like use a 10% rule on ALL of my earnings, regardless of where they come from, how much I made and how much it took to make it! My 10% rule is pretty basic… I start by paying myself 10%. ALWAYS pay yourself first! Serious… Always pay YOU …
