Day 5 – Adding more Content and Continue Bookmarking!

In the Day 4 post, I talked briefly about listing your site in blog directories to start gaining exposure your new wordpress website. These directories are also your BEST resource for finding related blogs and participating in their own discussions. GB Singh of the Third Eye Health, posted a link to a great List of Blog Directories, and since there are currently 234 places listed, I will visit the links and make sure my new site is listed in as many that will accept me! It may take a while!

Lets take a look at what I am doing on my new website today…

Added a New Content Post

Again, working on the theme that winter is coming… I added a page that helps people Choosing the Right Gas Logsfor their own needs. I also added a simple popshops page to the bottom of the post, using the Javascript version of code from Popshop. I realize there is no real onpage value from the javascript version, but I am designing the site for visitors, not search… right? I want my CONTENT to provide the value and have placed the majority of my efforts in that area for the time being.

Get Listed in More Blog Directories

As mentioned above, I am going to go over to Robin Goods list of top blog directories, and will submit to the first 10 in his list. I am not going to go crazy and spend 2 hours listing the site in all of them… this is something I will do in moderation and spend 30 minutes every day on, until I make it through his list. Thankfully, he has them numbered, so it will be easy to keep track of what I have done!

Today – I am going to submit to the following directories, from number 225-234:

  1. FeedBees - email activation was required!
  2. RSS Mountain - I could not get this one to work.
  3. FeedSee - Simple site info required
  4. Best Directory - 3 Options, I chose Free – email validation required.
  5. Blogged - Signup required, 2 steps to add a site.
  6. GeekySpeaky - Their spider was broken and could not find the reciprocal link, I removed them from my site.
  7. ReadBurner - This one was a bit confusing. It is a mashup site, combining feeds from several sources. I was able to add the feed to the Google reader section only.
  8. Blogotion - Submitted with email, and the form was dead.
  9. A1 Web Links - Chose free listing – Reciprocal link required. Added on my resource page at: Top DIY Websites
  10. rssHugger - Simple registration required – Blog post or payment of $25 required.

In the past, I have used the directory submission services of SubmitEdge… but for this site, I am going to submit all of these manually! It should take less than 30 minutes.

Total Time on Site Today

I had started the article last night and spent 10 minutes creating the image and drafting the post, then an additional 45 minutes this morning writing it. I estimate 30 minutes to an hour for the blog directory submissions, so in total… about 2 hours.

In total, it took me just over 1 hour to get the above ten sites completed. Those that did not work, I just skipped.

On Saturday… I plan to post the week 1 results of the site, including traffic… indexing, inbound links, RSS subscribers and of course, any income the site has produced.

How is your new site coming along?

    Hey Mark,

Good advice as always! I just got the new eBay EPN newsletter and they have “Tips for Sending Engaged Traffic to eBay Sites” here is a quick list and it’s right with what you have always mentioned:

Maximize the amount of unique content to your site.
Use more targeted creatives and tools.
Integrate eBay links within your content.
    Optimize your landing pages.
    Use our geotargeting functionality.
Avoid simply incentivizing visits or registration with eBay

    What do you think?

Why not use SubmitEdge? Is this so you can individually choose which directories to be listed in and have more control over how your site is listed? Does SubmitEdge submit to blog directories?

    Hi Mark,

I have used Robin’s list for over a year and it is definitely the most complete of any others I have found. One thing I do different than you is that I start with #1 and work my way back to #230+. I have found the older directories seem to give me the most “instant” benefit.

Another good list that includes a few which are not listed on Robin’s site is located here:

    Re:List of blog directories

You should combine the backlinks from blog directories with the backlinks from the articles you submit (on topics closely related to your blog’s most important keywords).

A properly developed backlink program will deliver far more targeted traffic to your blog due to its impact on the search engines than due to the actual directory links themselves.

I maintain a list of The Top 101 Blog Directories & RSS Submission Sites on my blog at:

    Blog Directories

Since I update this list weekly there are now 320 entries listed with NO DEAD LINKS.

One of the sub-categories from the overall list is a group of 49 Priority Directories that should be on every blogger’s “must join” list. This is a good place to start.

Try to submit to 3-5 directories PER DAY. This discipline will pay big dividends over the long run.

    Best of success,

    Robert A. Kearse
