Hi All -
I just thought I would let you know that the slow load times, page errors and just about everything else you are currently experiencing on your Build a Niche Store sites, is related to an eBay feed issue. THIS IS NOT BANS RELATED and will likely be resolved very soon.
To verify, go to: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/traceroute/Â and type rss.api.ebay.com into the trace window. You will see that the feed is timing out at several hops along the way.
At 2:45 ET – It is back up!

I’m glad you posted this I was beginning to get concerned with slow load times on my sites.. There is also a problem with creating advanced searches using the ebay partner network Id ..The rss feed will work until you add Id then an error code appears. I’m sure Ebay is working on this since it was their idea to change from CJ… thanks
I meant to title the post…
Slower than a SEFL Driver… LOL

Since I saw this post and replied …I checked some of my sites and it looks like there is a problem with Ebay not adding the Ebay partner id # to the items for sale…I checked 3 sites and the Id number is not there on ROLLOVER ..Just to make sure I checked 3 sites that I have not converted to Ebay partner and the Cj #s are there…I think I am going to wait a couple of weeks to convert the others..since they are having so many problems with their own conversion…..
Mark,
Slower than a SEFL Driver… LOL
Now thats a GOOD inside joke..haha
Oh my gosh! Thank you for posting this! I’m currently working in a site and I thought I had messed it up with what I’m doing.
I have been working on a VERY custom layout, blog, javascript, VERY advanced layout on a site and thought I did the same.
Mark
I completed the switchover on http://www.buy-luggage.net/ and my campID’s aren’t showing up on the bottom when I hover over an item.
…is this due to the current eBay issues we’re experiencing?
@ Eric -
I have found the same thing and already sent a message to Adam and Kelvin about it. I do not know if it is htaccess related or eBay feed related…
non-EPN stores seem to work just fine and it is only the upated stores doing this.
Also, make sure cloaking is turned off, just to be sure.
Mark
….also
Mark,
Where did you get that “fuction curPageURL” code that you added to the very top of your header file in the recent video you posted?
Eric
sooo, that’s why none of my stores will load … WHEWWWW
i was about to panic….
Seems to be working now….anyone else?
Yup! Working fine here again.
Mark
I just checked and the ebay partner campid is back in place on my sites….GOOD NEWS
Mine is still not working?? none of my sites will come up?
Has anyone tackled this EPN switch on a v2.0 store yet?
I’ve switched over the tracking/campID’s on them all, but haven’t tried to fix the “sitemap mod issues” that arrise with the update.
Eric
@Eric
all my sites are v2.0 and I have switched 5 sites to the new epn and fixed the sitemap mod as I went , other than the ebay issues today really no problems….I just used the same instructions from many posts ago I can not find Marks link here, since I downloaded it then….
Ok…was it in the recent camtasia video?
I can’t seem to get the 301 redirect coding right….
My last few sites are 2.0 that are NOT upgraded to 3.0….if that makes a difference…
I’m also interested in the 2.0 conversion. Actually, I’d love to have your two cents. I have a few 2.0 sites that I hadn’t planned on upgrading to 3.0 since I didn’t want to bother reworking the mods.
But it sounds to me like I will have to rework the mods anyway when I go to 2.0epn? I have the sitemap and permalink mods from mark plus a couple other lesser mods I could do without.
If I will lose these with the epn conversion, maybe I should just go 3.0. In which case, I’m wondering which route people have used that presented fewer problems: the 2.0 to 3.0epn update (all-in-one upgrade), or doing it in two parts: 2.0 to 3.0, then 3.0 to 3.0epn.
It seems like people were having more trouble with 3.0 to 3.0epn update (which I would’ve thought was the simpler conversion!)
Thoughts?
Are people here registering sales yet at the affiliates.ebay.com site yet? I have clicks being registered, but no impressions or earnings. Is there something wrong with my sites?
I’m finally showing some BIDS! I’m very excited! I hope they turn into my first sales!!
BUT, I still can’t access my sites right now : (
I did two v2 to v3epn conversions yesterday. The first one went off without a hitch, but the second one shows errors involving the database instead of a confirmation page. I followed the same steps for each….
I’m clueless about DBs … any thoughts or suggestions???
Also, I’ve read on the BANS forum that some folks are “starting over” when they have errors. What does that entail? Any tutorials, guides or tips available on that.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I’m not showing anything in my EPN campaigns yet…it’s probably cuz I just updated today….we’ll see tomorrow!
I have finally registered some sales. Small but at least its something. It did take a few days for things to start moving, but it looks like it is happening.
I’m up to $2.95 in commissions for EPN.
I’m REEEEALLY interested to see if people are noticing “higer-than-usual” sales/leads ect.
I’m just overly suspicious of CJ’s reporting practices and hope that the EPN is a breath of fresh air.
Hey Rochelle,
You’re well on your way to your first check from eBay! Did you notice that the minimum payout is only $5?! Wonder how long that will last!
Cindy
@Eric
On my 2.0epn sites I just followed these instructions http://www.thenichestorebuilder.com/build-a-niche-store-sitemap-mod-complete-version.htm#comments ..I think only with the 3.0epn sites do you have to change the footer file so you don’t get 404 errors.. I hope this helps.
I have had pretty good stats over there already. Had a few sales on the first day. One thing I found weird… I moved the GetaRacecar site first.. since it is one of my busiest… I had a registration and sale on Apr 2nd… On CJ, I had a registration and sale (Different auctions) on April 4th from the same site! Didnt quite understand that, but noticed my eBay banner on the site was still using CJ until I changed it this morning.
Since April 1st… I have only transitioned 5 sites of my own so far.
1007 clicks, 48 bids, 6 sales, 1 registration
So… it definitely works right!
@ Josh -
I upgraded a couple sites from 2.0 to 3.0 . I cannot say it was “Without a hitch”… but overall, the errors were my own fault.
I WOULD NOT upgrade a 2.0 store if it was originally a 1.3 store – it wont work! The newest edition that will work on 1.2 or 1.3 stores, is a 2.0 epn.
@ Relle -
I wouldnt start over with ANY site older than 1 month old! If you have the site and have the database… do the conversion as you would. If you find db errors, run the update file from the previous version to correct database errors.
example: running a 2.0 to 3.0 EPN upgrade… You install the files and the site starts sending db errors.
Go back into the files and grab the update.php from 2.0 to 2.0 epn, run it.
Go back a second time, run the update.php from 2.0 to 3.0, run it.
Go back a third time, run the update.php file from 3.0 to 3.0 EPN, run it.
I have found that not all the update.php files contain ALL of the code needed for each step, so doing it in the order above has worked for me.
Mark
Mark,
Just to clarify …
1) If I have a 2.0 site that I want to leave as 2.0, then just the 2.0 EPN update should be all I need? Anything else to be on the look out for?
2) And if I have a 2.0 site that I want to upgrade to 3.0, then I need to do the 2.0 EPN update, then the 3.0 upgrade, and then the 3.0 EPN update?
3) However, if I have already upgraded a 2.0 to a 3.0 a few weeks ago, can I just do the 3.0 EPN update? Or do I need to do the 2.0 EPN update and then the 3.0 EPN update also?
#2 and #3 seem a bit contradictory so I’m confused. Personally, I have sites that fall into #1 and #3 while #2 is probably not going to happen for me.
Fortunately for you, you understand a lot about the backend of all this stuff. But for the rest of us, an error causes panic and since we “know nothing”, we really don’t even know where to begin!
Cindy
@ Cindy -
The scenario I wrote above was ONLY if you find database erros after the upgrades.
IF you have a 2.0 Store… (Not a 1.3 that was upgraded to 2.0 in the past)
1) Run 2.0 EPN Upgrade files to add EPN Only
or
2) Run 2.0-3.0 EPN Upgrade files to go full 3.0
IF there are no problems and the site works fine… no need to do anything more.
BUT
IF during process #2, you end up with database errors, reload the 2.0 epn update.php file ONLY and run it. Then go back and reload the 3.0 epn update.php file ONLY and run it.
If you are upgrading an original 3.0 store to 3.0 EPN…
1) Install the 3.0EPN files
2) Run update.php from browser and follow instructions.
There should be no issues with this upgrade.
It really is a confusing set of updates for me too Cindy… even with experience, this has been challenging! LOL
Thanks, Mark!
I feel a lot more confident about tackling my older sites now. I’d only done 3.0 ones so far.
Now that I know several (hopefully ALL) the possible problems and fixes, my panic level should be much lower.
But that’s a project for tomorrow … not today!
Cindy
Thanks Mark! Between your response to me and to other posters here, I think I have a clear plan of action.
Sweeet – I started getting the error messages again right now and used the above traceroute tool .. .before I started panicking and see its having an issue .. . thus no panick!!! Thanks for the great info.
