Free Build a Niche Store Template and the Beginning of Customization!
Hi Everyone – as promised earlier this week, I have stripped down one of my own templates and it is listed below for all of you to use if you wish. I have also recorded a 30 minute video, which is the first of 2 segments on how to customize this template. In the next video posted to the Build a niche Store Template section, I will show you how to further customize this template by adding various affiliate ads into the header section as well as the side columns.
I do ask one thing… if you use this template, please leave the footer code intact, giving credit to my site as the template builder. I have no way to police this, so you are all on the honor system! I tend to believe in people quite a bit, so I am going to create this template in 5-10 different color schemes and post a new version every day! If you want to share theme templates via your own blog, please link back to the original files posted here.
In order to use these templates, you have to upload them to your domain folder, inside the template folder. Once uploaded, choose the template from within your administration of Build a Niche Store.

Mark,
Is there anyway that you can add BANS to a WordPress blog? I have a niche Wordpress blog that gets lots of traffic. It is also in the golf equipment niche. Is there any way that I can add BANS to this?
Thanks for the template. I haven’t watched the video yet :)
Took a quick look at the template but didn’t notice any H1 title tags in the template. Is there a reason for that?
Hank,
The video should answer your question about the missing H1 tags. He’s letting the ones you use in your content section be the H1 for the page.
I just add the category title as my page title in my content section and make it an H1. I don’t know that Mark has actually covered it in the instructions so far but you can check the golf site and see what he’s done.
Cindy
@ Hank – Yeah, what she said :-) (Cindy)
@ Cindy – in regard to the H1’s… if you put NO CONTENT on your page (in the content box) BANS takes your page name and uses it as the H1 – I am actually writing the code right now to use the page title versus page anchor text.
Thanks,
Mark
Hey Mark,
I don’t know if its just me. But the template won’t work on my BANS site.
Looking at the video, it looks like you upload it to your public html folder and then it automatically goes to your themes folder.
When I tired that nothing happened.
Then I tried to upload straight to the themes folder and then “green” shows up as one of my templates. However, there isn’t even a thumbnail for the template. And when I pick the template my website just looks crazy. It has a couple of error messages on the page where the header should be.
Any idea what might be causing this?
BTW…it’s awesome what you’re doing here. It’s much appreciated.

I used a search box from the 3.0 BANS release… I should have made that better known. If you are using a BANS 2.0 site, it will not work correctly.
Otherwise… it has tested great on several sites.
Please shoot me url.
Mark
Great Site here Mark. Loved the template and have installed it on one of my sites. Just FYI in the footer the link back to you was broken, it was just http://www.thenichestorebuilder /. I fixed it to give the proper link with the omitted “.com”
Elise
Thanks to everyone who noticed my footer code was missing the .com in my domain link… kinda made it pointless! Doh!
It is corrected and working right now.
For anyone who may have downloaded it prior to today (03/10/08), check your footer.php file, you will see that the target url is http://www.thenichestorebuilder/ it should be: http://www.thenichestorebuilder.com/
Doh…
Mark
Mark,
Great template and another terrific video – thank you!
A word of warning, though, to BANS users about copyright.
Even though there may be no declaration of copyright on any image you might want to use, on the internet or elsewhere, it is automatically covered by international copyright law, and using it without permission is not legal.
It’s a gray area once you take an image and modify it, (and they gotta catch you, too) but the bottom line is – using other people’s images without permission is illegal.
I don’t want to stifle creative BANSpeople but just so you know :-)

@ James & Everyone -
James has a very good point and a little common sense goes a long way!!
When I decide to use an image for a site, the first thing I look at, is if the image is a custom, hand created image, or if it looks like stock photography. If it is a stock photo from another vendor, I wont hesitate to use it….
That being said, if the image is a stock photo and the presenter has gone out of their way to customize it, I wont use it.
99% of the time, stock images are fine to use and you will have no issues… after all, the companies provide these images for the purpose of advertising already.
Just use your best judgement… if in doubt, take the high road!
Mark
Hi Mark
Just want to say thanks for another great video. Your videos are very useful and I have learn a lot by watching how a pro works. Also amaze me how brilliant you are, Your good teacher qualities you have by teaching a complicated subjects into easy to understand for not so tech knowledgeble persons like me.
I like the part where you created the logo. How easy was for you to create a good looking logo. I have spend several hours trying to make a logo looks good and sharp, have images on white or transparent background. Also in finding “free to use images”.
Thank for sharing your knowlege your teaching are greatly appreciated.
I also had a problem when I uploaded the template to the themes folder, and got nothing but bobbledy gook. What went wrong?
The video is gone?
Never mind it was a glitch on Google i guess
Sorry :)
Dave
