Get Backlinks From Ebay Listings

Using Ebay The Biggest Internet market Place to get Back Links to your web sites.
If you are a seller or not you can get back links from Ebay.com
I’m going to describe two ways to get back links from Ebay. I know many of us have issues with Ebay now, but don’t jump ship to soon.

According to Ebay Policies you can have links going off site in About me page and “One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing”
As you saw in one of Rochelles posts she utilizes her About Me Page as a place to keep links to her sites. You do not need to sell to use this method. Simply sign up for Ebay and create a About Me Page and place your links there. See Google loves Ebay.
If you notice when you are doing research for niche’s and do “widget” + “build a niche store” or “view more items on Ebay” and no BANS stores come up, almost always a Ebay listings will pop up.
So many moons ago Mark started a discussion on how to use actual listings to get backlinks from Ebay Listings itself which are what Google really loves.

What I have been doing for a few months is creating pages in my host containing descriptions of items I sell on Ebay.
I have been importing from China and Selling on Ebay since the beginning.
This is more for having a backlink from a very strong site. Not necessarily selling product, But as you will see there is a way for that aswell.
OK What I do is;
(1) Create a PDF Description of a item I sell on EBay.com
(2) Place the PDF file in the root of the store folder in my host I want the backlink to.
(3) When I list a item I place a link with keyword anchor text at the very top of the listing with H1 tags.
So it would look like this. Keyword Anchor Text
When Google crawls Ebay it will pick up your anchor text and follow it to your site.
Now some people do link to a description on a content page on a web site itself, but that is pushing it IMO.
I believe the best thing to do is put a link to the item page in the PDF. There are many free PDF creators on the Internet some with link capabilities. Try http://www.pdf995.com/ Since I sell on Ebay and have BANS sites with similar names I interconnect with my bans sites and have my Ebay items in the sidebar.
Some may say there would be issues with having two way links, but now that we can cloak our Ebay footprint in V3 this issue shouldn’t be a as much of a concern. As far as I know Google treats each Ebay listing separate. So You can in theory get a backlink from every listing with the link in it.

Here is a ebay About Me Page I am connecting to a bans store Gadget Niche Store I am still in the process of implementing the two methods there. I will be writing more about these methods at Niche Store Marketing when time permits. The theory behind this is mine and some others. You should research any method like this yourself before doing it and understand any risk that may be involved.

Hope this helps

Bill

What Bill is talking about is a great way to get one-way links back to your site from a high authority site like eBay. Links to NOT always have to be to pages on the site and pdf files work great!

I would warn that you include no more than 1 link per listing, and MAKE SURE it links to a pdf on your site, about that specific product.

The point of the backlinks is not to sell it through your site, but to get the one way backlinks. If you point to actual site pages, you may get the eBay slap! :-)

Terrific post. I thought that was what Rochelle was doing. I set up a link to my first bans store august last year and it shows up in google searches.

Something else I played around with which does work BUT it is a bit of a grey area was to place a link from within one of my own ebay listings to my niche store. Now this is as mentioned above okay to have on of-site link from a listing according to ebay, but I was very uneasy at first as I’ve been selling for almost seven years. But I never got pinged for it and so long as there was a relation between the item listed and the link it seemed OK.
The logic for doing this was simply that I listed I highly sought after fishing item which drew 1000’s of hits on my page. The visitors to my page then click on my link to my niche store which listed similar items and then some of them bought and of course because they came back into ebay via my store I got credited for the sales.
Yes it is somewhat sneaky but it works.

Please note that I only do this now and then.

    Just a note :
Remember Ebay can interprete there rules there way. That said. a good idea is to put a link on the top of the auction that says “Store” and have it go to your about me page and have another link on top of that page to your bans site..
I don’t think of it as black hat or sneaky. Simply using Ebay for all its worth. Non of this violates any rules as long as you follow the rules and not bend them.
Also I have linked from auction pages to other out of box stores I have tried over the years and never was slapped, I dont advicate it though. Just because me or others do it sometimes it is the decision of each person. Most of these tricks are in Ebay how to books aswell. I have actually written instructions years ago to do similar tricks and found them in Ebay books a year later. Non of this is new, just well kept secrets.

Hi. Thanks so much for this info! As a SEO Marketer it is difficult to create quality backlinks without spamming and this might be a way to get one or two nice links.

Will definitely test it and get back to you guys with some feedback.

As of April 1st 2008 it appears that links from ANY Ebay page is against ePN TOS. This includes a ABOUT ME Page. As far as a PDF is concerned the practice should be OK, BUT anyone trying this is testing the waters. I recommend reading all the ePN terms and contact ePn if any question arise.
