Google Gives Back – with Real Search Volume Numbers!

All I can say is WOW – Google is sharing Search Volume Stats!

If you have ever used the Google Keyword Tool, you know it has been frustrating seeing nothing but small image graphs with the various amounts of volume. Guess what… it now shows actual search volume numbers!

If thats not too cool… I don’t know what is!

To learn more about the stats… visit the Google Answers section for the tool.

This is the part that caught my eye:

Date range: The Approx Search Volume [Previous Month] column shows search volume statistics for the last calendar month. The Approx Avg Search Volume column shows average monthly search volume over a recent 12-month period.

Makes me wonder what will happen to all the companies who have built a business model out of the stats they would never release!

To see a side by side comparison… watch this video by Ed Dale, comparing one of his site visitor stats to the volume!

This should prove to be invaluable. I was wondering, have you compared the results you get from Google AdWords to those from Wordtracker (paid version)? I’ve just searched a dozen keywords and they all show many searches on Adwords and very few on Wordtracker – eg “build a niche store” shows 4,400 results on Adwords for June and 10 predicted on Wordtracker. What am I missing?

I was actually doing keyword research earlier and saw the numbers. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve already done a few comparisons with wordtracker data and Keyword Elite and as you’d expect there are some pretty big differences (just have to remember to divide by days in the month!).

    @ Denise -

I talked about that in the next post/video showing how to use the data.

Essentially, WT and Google use completely different databases for the volume figures…. Google, its own, and WordTracker, several meta crawler databases… so the volume figures are going to be different.

The BEST way I found to use the two groups of data is by using the Google volume, compared to the WordTracker index results… ie: If google shows 4000 searches and WT shows only 20 pages in the index for the term, it should be a hot one!

Its almost like the missing piece of a puzzle has been put in front of us!

Thanks Mark, I’ve just seen your new video explaining how to use Adwords and Wordtracker. What a gift the Adwords tool now is! I’m looking forward to going back over various sites to see what additional keywords I can target.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As usual, you have your finger on the pulse!

    Hi Mark,

Are you going to make a WP-Bans template like flex-bans that we can Install Into our existing Ban sites?

    Rick

  • Mark (author) said:

    @ Rick -

I actually just posted about that!

Even the BANS Flex theme can be used on an existing site… it just takes a bit more care during the process of pointing your files to the includes.

On future templates, there will be instructions for both methods.
