How to use Kaboodle to Promote Your BANS Sites
I am just about done getting my 10 links per store for last week’s homework. I think for me the easiest way to achieve this will be to focus a single method on each site for each 10-link batch.
That may not make much sense right now because most people are probably still on their first sites or just getting their second sites up but by the end of this series we will have at least 12 sites and need to get 10 links per site, per week. By the 12th week that will be a total of 120 links for that week!
This first week I decided to get backlinks by submitting pages from my stores to Kaboodle. Next week I will do something different. Or, maybe not, as using Kaboodle can be a great way to get deep links into your sites.
If any of you would like to add links to Kaboodle you can read my instructions on how to do this here.

Edit: 02/28/2008
Several people have become confused over how to add pages from their site to a list after it has been created. What you want to do is select the list you created with the first page from your site. It is up to you if you want to have a separate list for each BANS store, as some stores may compliment each other. But once you have created a list (or several) it will be available to you as a choice from a drop-down list.
I believe Kaboodle defaults to the last list you used so if you are adding several pages from your store to the same list you really don’t need to do much.
This may not have cleared up some of the confusion regarding using Kaboodle to promote your stores. If not, please let me know specifically what is tripping you up and I’ll try to clarify further.

Great directions, Rochelle. I’ve never heard of Kaboodle before, so thanks for introducing it.
Kaboodle is agreat place. Started using it when Ebay bought in and then forgot all about it. Thanks Rochelle
Rochelle,
From what I see, Kaboodle looks killer! Never heard of it, either! I’ll be giving it a trial run tonight….thanks!
Oh, and it’ll be added to my “link building resource list” too! :D
Quick question….
When Kaboodle asks you for a description, do you just leave in your description from your website page….or do you change it to something different?
…I’m worried about duplicate content….
Eric – I use the description from the page, what I entered when I created the page. As to whether I should be concerned about duplicate content, I have no idea. Any one want to weigh in on this?
Rochelle
Rochelle/All,
I tried Kaboodle and got locked out last night for using it to “advertise” So be careful how you post. I signed up again with a different e-mail and will take it slow–probably without my own comments other than to say something like “Cool item”. I don’t think they deleted my content though–just my account.
BTW, Rochelle, I loved your Ghost Hunters site.
Yael – Wow. Good to know. About how many pages had you submitted before your account was closed? What did Kaboodle’s email say?
Rochelle
Rochelle,
I had submitted quite a few, which may have made them take a look at my postings. (probably about 15 pages). Kaboodle did not say anything, I just couldn’t log on. I tried several times in several different ways and got “account deleted”. So rather than send an e-mail, I read their TOS and found the provision about self-advertising. (which does’nt make any sense, because the whole site is about shopping) So I knew I had done a no-no, but then I just reregistered with a different e-mail and resolved to go slowly and develop strategies for logging pages that won’t make it look so much like advertising (ie going slowly and/or interspersing it with related content sites)
Yael
Yael – I just checked my Kaboodle account and same thing. Account disabled. Oh, dear! I certainly didn’t mean to instruct people on getting their Kaboodle accounts disabled.
Rochelle
DARN IT!!!…it happened to me TWICE!!! Both on my 2 main emails that I use. I guess I shoulda read the TOS, cuz from what I can see, Kaboodle get’s listed pretty quickly!
If you guys come across a general method for posting to Kaboodle W/O getting deleted, let us know!
Eric
Eric – I have an idea and am testing it right now. I won’t know for a few days if it works. If it does I’ll post my new idea regarding Kaboodle.
Rochelle
Rochelle,
I think I may be onto something…this is the longest I’ve had a Kaboodle account, and haven’t been deactivated.
What I’ve been doing is filling in the Highlights, Add Comment, Item Tags etc….basically filling in everything with a little comment or two and Kaboodle seems to like it.
…we’ll see how it goes!
Eric
Eric – That’s basically what I was doing. The longest I lasted at first was a few days. Then they took me down and removed everything I had submitted.
What I’m doing now is creating wishlists with a link to one of my stores and links to other stores that may or may not be related. I’m waiting to see if my account stays open for at least a week before posting that on my site. I lost my personal account because of this (I made one list for one of my stores) and they refuse to give it back. They said they deleted everything relating to my account. I don’t want that happening to any one else.
Welp, they finally kicked me out of Kaboodle….AGAIN.
My “method” allowed me to stick around a bit longer…but I finally got the axe a couple days ago.
They also say they deleted my account and everything with it, but I’m still seeing some of my Kaboodle’s in Google….so go figure.
I really like Kaboodle…the ease of use and their power in Google make them a very good way to get noticed.
Rochelle,
Let us know how things are going….
Eric
I was kicked out also, but I still get referrals from there occasionally.
Sherrin
Eric,
I think I’m doing well but that’s because I lost the log in information for the account I was testing with and can’t verify that I’ve been kicked out. The reason I think I’m still ok is because I get a visitor from Kaboodle every now and then. One thing I noticed with my other closed account is that the Google results take people to an empty page. It seems Kaboodle clears out all aspects of a closed account.
If I remember I’ll try again with a new account but right now I’m busy with other things so I’m not sure when I’ll get to it. But I agree that they were great at getting found in Google!
Rochelle
There IS a way to do Kaboodle and not kicked out or have your account deleted. There is also a way to have unmonitored multiple accounts that will help. it takes a bit of effort but is more than worth the time if you want listed very high on the search engines for some very competitive terms. One of the most obvious things to keep in mind is that you should never use affiliate links (as is) or powerful money claim verbage. Another key to keep in mind is to do shadow sites with credible hosts like wordpress.com which are fairly quick to create and you can ad to as you go along.
Stealth Money Maker,
What is the method you are talking about regarding Kabooble? What steps would we need to take to not get kicked off? And what are shadow sites?
Rochelle,
After getting booted off awhile back, I signed up again and have kept a couple of Wish Lists going….interspersing links from my sites with general links from all kinds of shopping sites. It has been up about three months without getting taken down.
Yael
Yael,
That was what I’ve also tried after I got booted the first time, though I can’t confirm anything because I lost the log in information to the new Kaboodle account I created. But I’m pretty sure this is working because every now and then I notice a visitor referred by Kaboodle in my counter stats.
I may have to create another account and try this again, but this time not lose the account info : )
Actually, they will ban your entire domain, so nobody else can link to it. Pretty crazy really.
