I Don’t Know about You – But I’m Mad As Hell!

This post is completely off topic and about the whole AIG bonus bullshit and our the way our Government is handling this… if you care less… the X is in the upper right corner!

Why Aren’t we ALL Mad As Hell and Demanding Accountability?

Just to qualify this post – I have no vested interest in AIG, not family.. not invested in, nothing, unless the Billions we are ALL paying in the garnishment of our tax dollars. I also voted mostly democratic in the past Prez election, but tend to stay in the middle of the political spectrum.

Truthfully… I watched a committee REAM this guy from AIG today and the entire time… all I could think was why aren’t our Gov’t officials, sitting in their holier-than-thou, high tax-dollar jobs… being grilled the exact same way? I meanTHEY are the ones who approved this entire bailout right? Shouldn’t THEY be bent over for the same reaming from us, the people who pay their salaries and provide all kinds of perks for having a federal job?

Just listening to Barney Frank tell him they want names of ALL exec’s who received the bonus money so he can make them public makes me ask… what about YOU? How about you tell us, the American People, exactly why there was no friggin oversight? Tell ME Barney, how much do you make off the taxpayers back, including all your perks?! Now WHY aren’t you doing YOUR job?

You heard it here first… this AIG thing will see some big name Gov officials heads rolling… it’s just a matter of time!

I am not absolving AIG at all… but by god if my son needed $1000 for surgery, I would make damn sure it got spent on surgery, and not some gummy bears!

Its time we grab our pitchforks and march on Washington folks! Our leaders are out of control!

yup, I totally agree with you. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Did they really have to give out the bonus money? give me a break….

Don’t get me started. I watched about 20 minutes of that committee today and had to turn it off. Good ol’ Barney. He has some cojones. There’s good reason why you can now buy a “Tell The Truth Or Get The Barney” bumper sticker. It’s one big gummy bear mess. Now where’s my pitchfork?! oooh, there’s a niche store market…PitchforksToDC.com, buy pitchforks, new pitchforks, used pitchforks to prod DC officials back to doing their job for us.

    My sentiments exactly. Three thoughts

    1. Bessie Frank could care less that there have been death threats against the AIG employees, he just wants to throw their names out there so America knows who to hate.

    2. The socialists on Capitol Hill knew about the bonuses, they even protected them in the recent stimulus package.

    3. I fear for my country because we are either going to have a peaceful socialist change or a bloody violent revolution and it’s going to be torn apart. The Republicrats in DC are doing their best to destroy the nation.

If you ask me all of DC ,congress, senate, pres, vice pres and all the public officials are way too free to give out our tax dollars and not let some of these companys fail and we take those reprocussions instead of the fact that we will probably never see our way out of this debt and for generations beyond most of our lives will be trying to repay all this BS.
When did it become a hitler regieme and they do what they want with our money and we do not get to have a say except at election time??…politicians suc* the life from all of us in some way or another…I wonder how many of these congress people were in on the PONZY scheme …where are those names?? Well they did not have to be in on that other ponzy, they have their own…our WALLETS

Say you don’t care, that’s fine. But stick to business.

because they are soooo effin out of touch with “real” people like us, they have no effin idea !!!!!!!!!

IMO, to think they even give a shit about us is wishful thinking.. they’re getting paid and that’s all the care about..

on a side note.. i’m sure SOME of them do care, and that’s probably few and far between… but for the most part, they’re just going through the motions and don’t care… IMO!

btw… in reguards to the “please” comment… Mark i think it nice to see something “different” here on your blog! If we can’t be opened minded… then… well i’ll just shut up hahah

Couldn’t agree more. Every morning I wake up and think…..it can’t get any worse…..and then it does. I know I should be thinking positive, but good grief, the guys in Washington DC just have no common sense.

This is all Obama, this one can’t be blamed on prior administrations. They knew all about these bonuses and made provisions for them, now when it comes time to pay them they are all up in arms! LOL give me a break, what do you expect when you ram a bill down the throats of Americans and did not even read the dam thing in the first place!

  • Robert said:

My perspective differs considerably. I find no surprise in the fact that there were mistakes and oversights in this hastely enacted bailout legislation. It was impossible for anyone to give this piece of railroaded dictum the care and attention it really required. It’s no wonder that the retention bonus exemption crept in without notice.

I lay the blame 100% at the feet of the previous administration which burdened the new administration and the American people with two wars and an impossibly diffucult economic mess. The Bush folks and the largely Republican dominated Congress allowed the unregulated conditions in which this hurried, imperfect, slapdash sort of remedial action urgently became needed to begin finding a path to recovery.

Should the current Congress and administration have been more careful? Certainly. But it strikes me that shock and surprise is not well placed under the circumstance. More fallout is being revealed today with disclosure that a dozen TARP recipients owe hundreds of millions in back Federal taxes. Again, no surprise whatsoever.

Does it make me angry? Of course. But I don’t expect folks saddled with these enormous, inherited problems to do a perfect job of sorting them out. My anger is directed at those who allowed this debacle to occur in the first place.

I agree whole-heartedly, where does the pitchfork line start?

  • Daniel said:

Amen! The AIG CEO that was being grilled has only been there for 6 months and is only getting a salary of $1/year, yes, one single dollar, and to see the way they treated him is a disgrace to us taxpayers.
I agree, it’s time for a change, not Obama change but a real tea party change.

    @Robert:

The current “mess”, i.e. the need to shore up the banking system, began with and was centered on the mortgage lenders who gave money to people who could not afford to pay back their loans.

Go back in time a little and look at who made this possible. Why, it was none other than – yes – Bill Clinton! He insisted that FNMA and the rest of the industry make it possible for all Americans to own their own homes, a noble ambition. OK, so they did that.

Lots of people bought homes, and I think that’s great. But the downside is, as we have seen, that you have to pay the mortgage! DUH! And when you don’t? DUH! The lender takes back your house.

When the lender does this too many times, guess what – he runs out of money! DUH!

The truth is that none of our current Obamarama bailout circus has anything whatsoever to do with Bush’s administration.

Did W run up the national debt? You betcha! Are we mad about it? You betcha! If Iraq had really had nuclear weapons and terrorists to deploy them, would we be grateful for him wiping them out? You betcha!

If Clinton had left the mortgage business alone, would we now have this bailout mess? Hell, no!

    Get your facts straight…

    Mark,

The fact that retention bonuses were paid to AIG employees is not what we should be concerned with. These bonuses were paid to people to keep them with AIG for a longer time before they got laid off instead of the employees jumping ship and going with another employer.

While the media focuses on the total amount of $160 million +, the fact of the matter is after you consider this bonus went to possibly 1000+ people, the actual amount to some employees may be quite modest. Basicaly, AIG was paying this bonus to these people to keep them there and help fix a sinking ship.

The assholes in the whitehouse and congress and feigning outrage over this issue because it in just another event which is being used to take the attention off 1). Obamas falling poll numbers, 2). further actions by Obama and his complicit band of leftist asshole friend in congress who are trying to make us part of a one world government.

THe attempt by congress to tax the AIG bonus is illegal since our constitution outlaws punitive or confiscatory taxing. Also, it is unlawful to impose a retroactive tax. The tax legislation will most definitely be overturned by the courts.

Ahh.. Now I see the light! On January 20, 2001, the Clinton administration shackled the incoming Bush team, rendering them helpless over eight years to regulate any abuses, and therefore completely blameless. I get it now.

  • John Moving simultaneously in all directions... said:

    @Robert

That’s good, ol’ buddy… but there weren’t any (discernable) abuses in the “everybody can get a mortgage” plan: it was just a bad idea, as people from both parties recognized at that time. We both know that something popular with the voters – no matter whether it’s a good idea or not – really can’t get booted unless it turns out to be a disaster. Which just happened. Took almost 8 years.

Changing the economy for better or for worse is like turning an aircraft carrier; it takes time…

AIG needs to reward people who are making them money so they stick around. The olny way for AIG to start making money again is by keeping top earners. I don’t think everyone should be so angry in the large scheme of things this is small and money is being squandered other places. The government is like a magician this is just a diversion to slip more money into there pockets when we look the other direction.

AIG is just a smoke screen…

On Wednesday (the same day that Mark posted this), the feds decided they would fund their bailouts by printing money – a staggering 1.2 TRILLION DOLLARS…

Does anyone here know what that will do to the American dollar? Here’s my opinion – monopoly money will be more valuable than any money you have in your bank account. If you think your groceries cost a lot now, if you think that gas is too expensive – just wait. We are talking massive inflation. This current recession will look like a cake walk.

The news networks are incompetent when it comes to reporting the facts. Have you heard anything from NBC, CBS, ABC or in any of the major newspapers regarding the fed printing money? Nope. Our grandchildren will read about this one in the history books, but as of today, 99% of Americans are not even aware that it happened.

@ Please and the others who think Mark should keep his political opinions to himself and “stick to business” – go ahead and unsubscribe. But here is why you shouldn’t. As Americans, we need to discuss what is happening. It is imperative that we speak up – that we discuss politics with our neighbors, our co-workers, our friends and family, and yes, our online acquaintances too. It’s ok to debate and disagree, but right now, the worst possible thing we can do is to shut up and give in.

America is in serious trouble. The more the government meddles in this recession, the bleaker the situation becomes. Anyone that gives a damn about this country and their freedom needs to (a) pay attention, (b) start thinking for themselves, and (c) let their voice be heard.

I don’t care what side of the fence you are on – Republic, Democrat, in the middle. It doesn’t matter. The people who are supposed to be representing our country are destroying it. I’m with Mark and many of the others here – I’m ready to march on Washington! It’s time the silent majority found their voice. It’s time these career politicians are held accountable for their underhanded and irresponsible actions.

    In late-breaking news…

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama’s budget would generate unsustainably large deficits averaging almost $1 trillion a year over the next decade, according to new estimates released Friday.

The new Congressional Budget Office figures predict Obama’s budget will produce $9.3 trillion worth of red ink over 2010-2019. That’s $2.3 trillion worse than the administration predicted in its budget just last month.

Worst of all, CBO says the deficit under Obama’s policies would never go below 4 percent of the size of the economy, figures that economists agree are unsustainable. By the end of the decade, the deficit would exceed 5 percent of gross domestic product, a dangerously high level.

I have read a few comments, but not all because this is just such a hot topic that tempers are flaring. (I have to admit, though, that I laughed outloud at Mark G.’s response! Thank you for the laugh.)

My view is likely to get me yelled at, but here goes. IF the people at AIG had bonus incentives in place prior to the bailout, AND the employees met the criteria to receive the bonuses, then I think they deserve to keep them. Period.

I’m so sick of finger pointing. “It’s Bushes fault.” “It’s Clinton’s fault.” “It’s Obama’s fault.”

Good grief! I get enough of this from my six and nine year olds. I really don’t want to hear it from grown men and women. At this point, does it really matter who is to blame? Really?

The fact is, we in the US are facing a potential depression and it’s frigging scary. Let’s look for ways to get us back where we need to be. Real solutions, not solutions that will help one political party gain or retain power. Just solutions that will help the American people.

We are on a slippery slope to Socialism. I didn’t sign up for the ride and I want the country to get off this speeding train. Where’s the exit sign?
