Is it May yet? I Feel like a SlumLord…

What a month so far… On April 1st, we were all hit with the EPN changeover on our existing eBay affiliate websites and if you found yourself head scratching along the way, you weren’t alone! In total, I think I am still only 50-60% of the way through all of my store updates! That’s not bad, but definitely not good!! What I found during this process is that I have TOO MANY Build a Niche Store sites out there that have been abandoned for one reason or another.

As many of you may recall, I mentioned a long time ago that I struggle with a short attention span! I don’t know that I would call it Adult ADD, but damn… it sure does feel that way sometimes! As I have been going through my hosting accounts for the EPN update, I have found no less than 30-40 BANS sites that I installed the software and walked away from! Some of them, I never even put in an eBay category! (That’s bad!) It kinda makes me feel like a landlord who owns property and doesn’t take care of it, yup, a SlumLord! The funny part of it is that some of the sites I DID setup a category for have actually been pretty busy, which raised a question in my own scrambled mind… Do I have too many niche stores, and if so, how many IS too many?

Did you find any abandoned stores during your own EPN Updates?

On another note… answering of emails (I get more than 100 each day in regard to BANS) is going to be slower than usual over the next week. I am going to be out of town from Sunday through Friday and while I will have a laptop with me, I am only going to be near it about 1 hour a day. I will do my best to get the to each… but no promises for a week. One thing I never realized was just how hard it is to get pets cared for while gone! I mean, we generally go on trips 2-3 times each year, but this is the first time since we got our second dog. We had to line up a friend to stay at our home during the time to make it easiest…

When I return, I will spend the rest of this month sewing up any loose ends with the BANS EPN Update, along with an unrelated e-commerce project of 12 sites I am almost done with. On May first, I am going to start the closing stages of the 12 week Empire series, which will involve 12 days (1 day for each week) of posts, outlining every step of the process on 10 domains I am going to dig out of the list I mentioned above.

May is coming quickly… and I personally, cannot wait!

Mark

The timing on this post couldn’t be better!

Three weeks ago (to the date) my wife and I had our first child!…and needless to say, my BANS progress has slowed considerably. I’m not happy about it…and I haven’t been keeping up with my existing 5 “BANS Empire” sites, let alone getting new sites up and running to make a total of 10!

Embarrassing…and I appologize to everyone for not holding up my end of the BANS Empire Series deal: 1 new BANS site per week. I’ve definately dropped the ball there. :(

I know that the first couple months of BANS sites are important for indexing and consistantly developing new content/pages. Unfortunately, I’ve done very little of that in the past 3 weeks.

I’m afraid that my early success may be slowing down due to my lack of progess/work on my sites….when, in acutality, my BANS commissions “should” be higher and higher each month.

I guess what I’m asking is: Have I completely screwed up my hard work on these sites by not adding new pages every week? How important is it to continually add to your BANS site?

    Thanks
    Eric

Firstly Congratulations on the birth of your child! and to add the little that I understood about this is that it is important to keep adding so that when the search engines come thru they are finding new content – otherwise they dont visit as often thus the inbound traffic from them will decrease.

    Mark-
I didn’t have any abandoned BANS stores. To new to the process. However, reading your post makes me think about another angle with the BANS stores (and not the approach I am using). I am referring to this comment…”The funny part of it is that some of the sites I DID setup a category for have actually been pretty busy”….Maybe you should be putting up many, many stores with just the basic work and walk away and let them “run” on their own. Again, not my approach, but I have read on the main BANS forum that there is at least one or two folks doing this and one them claims to be doing quite well.

One more point, I do agree with you that April has been crazy. I have only been in the BANS business since Feb 2008 but it seems to have been extra busy. Plus, my few sites were just beginning to get regular and steady sales on CJ. When I switched to EPN on April 5 things seem to have taken a swan dive. My clicks are finally getting back to normal but sales are non-existent.

    Anyway, enjoy your time away.

I was a bit hesitant to make the change but I updated my BANS sites two days ago and it went so smooth that it scares me a bit. It almost seemed too easy.

All my sites, well all four of them, were BANS V3

I will let them run for a few days and see how they work and if all is well I am up for starting a few more BANS sites.

You indicate you had some sites you had done little with but had been pretty busy. Does this make you think you should be adding even more sites and spending less time on opitmization, or just the opposite? I know some folks advocate opening as many sites as possible and letting nature take it’s course. Others, myself included, want to take more time to develop the site a little.
