Matching Products to Your Brand List

This post is part 4 of the 5 part Review Site Blueprint series . Thus far, we have determined the Type of Product Review Site we will be building and also learned a way to Determine if a Review Site is Worth Building, based on the overall amount of sales it produces. In the previous exercise, we Built a List of Brand Names that people are currently buying, and have them recorded on a simple blueprint text file, we are using to record everything we find along the way.

Just like our earlier exercise of Finding Brands that Sell, we are going to repeat an almost identical process for our Products! As long as you understand how we found the brand list, you will have no problems building a product list for each brand name. In this segment, we are going to evaluate the [PRODUCTS] from each of the [BRANDS] that people are BUYING RIGHT NOW on eBay. By the time you finish this exercise, you will have a list of the Products you should build your site around and focus on FIRST.

Goal of This Section

  • Locate Best Selling [PRODUCTS] within your Niche that People are Buying Right Now on eBay!
  • Locate ALL Relevant Products From the [BRAND] Websites.
  • PowerRank the [PRODUCTS] based on Product Sales Volume and Sell Rate!
  • Record Plenty of Notes for Future Use on The Website

Since we are completing the exact same process we did to find the brand names, refer back to those videos if you need help. The only difference, is that we are compiling products from each brand, versus brands from a niche.

Finding the [PRODUCTS] That are Currently Selling

  1. Login to TeraPeak and Drill Into the Main Category you are using for the site.
  2. Type the first [BRAND NAME] on your list into the search box.
  3. Choose 30-Day Results and Press Search.
  4. In the “Listings” section, Sort by “Bids” with the highest numbers of bids shown first.
  5. Make a note in your RankSpanker Blueprint of the Most Common [Product Models] you see, repeated throughout the results.
  6. Repeat this over 3-5 Pages of Results… So you have a list of the Top [PRODUCTS] that are in [Highest Demand]
  7. Repeat this Process for EACH [BRAND] On Your List.
  8. Go Out Onto the Web and Find the {BRAND] Website – Making Notes of the [PRODUCTS] they have within the niche.
  9. Once Completed, you have a list of AT LEAST 1 [PRODUCT] for each of the [BRANDS] that fill your niche. You may have considerably more!

The most important aspect to this entire process, is that you have at least one product from each of the brands you already know are selling well! My guess, is that you will have many more, but I have run across a few where only one exists. These are the products you want to focus your initial reviews on, when you start building your site!

Do you apply the same min 30 sales per product or anything like that?

@Tao – I chase the products with the highest volume Tao, which is what the next segment will repeat, the power rank process, but at the product level.

At this point in your research, if your brand had good sell rates, the product lists will start building easily. As far as a minimum though, I don’t use any minimums, other than what common sense tells me.

There are some brands that only have 1-2 products, but those products make up hundreds of sales (Like a Nintendo WII) and then there are brands like Nokia, which has 10 different cell phones, all of which can be on the list.

Once you have your brands (power-ranked from highest to lowest selling) then you repeat the process for the products within each brand, you can build an excellent starting point for the site, based on sales, then add popular search items in later.
