My Weekly Roundup of Great Posts to Read!
Something a bit new here… but we ALL spend alot of time reading on the web. The list below represents a small portion of the posts I read this week. They are here for many reasons… entertainment, information, learning, or just funny! :-)
Just Some of the Great Posts I saw this Week
From Blogging for Beginners, this A-Z guide to Blogging is priceless!
Marketing is the pillar to your online success. The best contents in the world won’t do you any good if you fail to market it to your target audience. As the blogosphere is getting more crowded, it’s much harder to stand out so having the right marketing mix ensure that you can stay longer in the game.
From Ian Fernando’s site – Google HATES Build a Niche Store!
Google is cracking down on Build a Niche Stores. Strange enough I knew it would be since, it is just a virtual window, a bridge page, a landing page, etc. Also, most users also do not add any content, or try to make their store stick out.
If you want some great insight into what Google thinks of Webspam, they held a Q&A with Webmasters this week… you can read all the questions and answers at the Google Moderator tool. If you go read this (Which I suggest, give yourself an hour… there are some gems hidden in the rough!) Here is a couple that caught my eye:
Q: …Have links from article sites been de-valued at all?
A: (From Matt Cutts) In my experience, not every article directory site is high-quality. Sometimes you see a ton of articles copied all over the place, and it’s hard to even find original content on the site. The user experience for a lot of those article directory sites can be pretty bad too. So you’d see users landing on those sorts of pages have a bad experience. If you’re thinking of boosting your reputation and getting to be well-known, I might not start as the very first thing with an article directory. Sometimes it’s nice to get to be known a little better before jumping in and submitting a ton of articles as the first thing.
Q: Do you feel that the webmaster should be informed in case of a manual penalty & the reconsideration requests should be looked into more seriously in case of a manual penalty.
A: … On the other hand, if you have a couple of hundreds of identical sites with – for example – scraped content from other sites, these are not adding any value to the Internet and I would not expect any notifications from Google.
John over at JTPratts Blogging Mistakes started a Build a WordPress Affiliate site series – check it out!! He has a great way of covering all the bases when writing these things down!
For everyone in the world of word from home, make money online and being their own boss… Elijah over at the At Home Couple is now in the same club with the rest of us and realized Internet marketing Causes Insomnia! I feel your pain brother… sleeping is a thing of the past!!
Alan first told us about the Better Reporting on ePN last week – its now live and you can get a pretty good picture of what your visitors are buying!! GREAT exposure to some new metrics for sure!
These were just a quick roundup of some of the places I visited throughout the week… I have made a commitment to myself to start bookmarking more posts in my FriendFeed account (Which I am delving into tonight) to help me keep better track of all this!

Excellent copywriting site.
Mark,
Will you give a comparative study of Popshop Stores versus Pepperjam Store Builder – both in its dynamic format and flat file format (CSV)?
@ GB –
I have not used the PJN version enough yet to say…
I CAN say the reason I have not used it yet… there are not enough point/click layout options to customize the look. Right now, everything has to be displayed in rows if you use the web interface.
i DO PLAN on experimenting on the datafeed on a future site… just not there yet.
So… for now, Popshops is much more flexible in the web interface, allowing you to set many more options in a point and click interface (Good for non-html users)
BUT – PS does not give you the datafile like PJN is allowing…
Mark
EPN reporting has definitely improved. I tend to buy a bit on eBay, so am testing to see if all my purchases are showing up….
So Far So Good!

I found this thread on the Bans Forum, which has me worried.
http://www.buildanichestore.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34146
It would seem to confirm that Google really does not like the Bans script and is prepared to cancel Adsense accounts purely because the Adsense ads are being run on a Bans site.
As you will see, they confirm that Dan has not breached Google’s Webmaster Quality Guidelines and yet they will still cancel his account unless he either removes the Adsense ads or his Bans script.
It certainly is a compelling reason not to use Adsense on your Bans sites or, at the very least, do not give them a reason to manually review your sites.
What do you think? Is Bans safe even within a WP integration?
