New BANS WordPress Template Coming Soon!

August 13, 2008

I just wanted to shoot this out there and see if anyone was interested in running it through its courses overnight. I have done quite a bit of testing, but you know how that goes… there can always be something missed! This thing is 100% home-grown in my office… so there is no telling what we might find!

This theme will fill the gap of everyone wanting 2 main things:

  1. Works on existing BANS sites without having to move them!
  2. ALL menu and sidebar colors are css coded! (Easy to change colors)

In addition, I have included a blank header logo file for you all to make your own logos! :-)

Check out the flyout menus as well… The MAIN store categories can be seen by hovering over the shop link.

I am trying to make it look more e-commerce like to get a good blend between stylish (Which it really is not) and functional for visitors.

The link: http://bansauto.trybans.com

I have a few things to sew up in the morning then I will be shooting it out tomorrow afternoon!

Feedback appreciated…

Mark

Wow that is awesome work Mark. This is exactly what I am looking for a long time. Time for me to play with WP/Bans ;-) How much will this theme cost?

I’ve checked this through and it’s looking pretty good. No obvious glitches although it would be nice to make use of breadcrumbs so the relationship between sub pages is clear e.g. Save on Gas being a sub page of Related websites.

    Mark,

I do not think you need anything better than this. There is always a tendency to over engineer. Keep it simple and user friendly which is what this template does. Just a little thought of mine……

    @ All -

Thanks for checking it out and the suggestions as well!!

My goal is to have the testing & install directions ready before this afternoon! It will be no different than the others at @ $29… but there are some special plugins (All free) that really help this theme come together!

Watch for a post later today.

    Thannks again,

    Mark

This is nice. The rounded upper corners need to be smoothed out but otherwise a great theme!

    @ Andrew -

Thank you for the find in FF! Its actually the logo file sitting a few pixels higher than it should.!

    Thanks again, will fix!

That is a sweet site!!! Will it be ready for purchase by Saturday? I’m going back to work on the cruise ships again and they have horribly slow Internet connections!!! If not, I’ll have to find a Internet cafe in the Cozumel that has decent speeds.

Hey, where did you get all of your content from, or are you a auto info guru?

  12. Chuck on August 13th, 2008 1:37 pm

The only thing I am noticing is that the store pages load items much slower than the rest of the page, maybe 2-4 seconds. That is not much but definitely noticable.

    @ All -

It is ready now… just waiting to post it!

In regard to the slower load time, its due to my use of the auto category with 750 options in the database! I have it installed on two other sites already and it is speedy as can be!

@ Shawn - What cruise line? We frequently travel on Holland America… but thinking of a different line for a Feb trip.

OK - that one might work for my needs. 3 column template with the content and store junk in the middle.

Mark, One question, hope you see this:

Even though I now you suggest the blog first, then the store, can you point me to the thread or post that shows how to put the store first, then the blog.

What I am looking for is the Store in the Root? Thanks, Sean.

  15. Mark on August 13th, 2008 8:58 pm

    @ Sean -

Basically, install BANS as you would normally… this template works either way, BANS or Blog in the root of the domain!

When adding the blog through fantastico, just put a directory name into the requested box. I usually use “blog”
