Niche Store Builder Update… Hear Ye, Hear Ye
Its been awhile since my last post… and we have been just as busy as we could be! I’m sure many of you heard by now about the latest Google Farmer aka Panda update, which Google claims will effect more than 12% of ALL search queries! (that’s a very big number)
Along with the Farmer Update… well, you just have to read the whole page.
Our Results…
Since Kim and I reduced the size of our network, and focused the types of sites we build to only rich, relevant, and unique content… we have seen “dramatic” increases in the last few weeks across all but a few of our sites!
The biggest gainers have been:
- Tight Niche eCommerce Sites
- Tight Niche How To Sites
- Well Structured Categories with Well Written Landing Pages
- Large Targeted Content pages (+500 word pages or posts)
- Pages and Posts that have Continued to Grow Over Time (Adding content to pages is helping them grow, instead of adding new pages)
Its also worth noting that several people have contacted me and mentioned that their old BANS sites that were previously de-indexed, have been re-indexed and are once again getting traffic from Google! If you have any old BANS remnants around, check them out and maybe start adding a bunch of relevant content so they stay there!
The losers were:
- Scraped or Imported Content Sites (Sorry WP Robot and Caffeinated Content)
- General Info Sites with Poor Flow and Content Categorization
- Sites without a Clear and Distinct Purpose!
Surprisingly, we found nothing in the backlinking strategies that effected our sites, or those we manage. If anything, link profiling seemed to take a backseat to quality content on this latest update!
Niche Store Builder Announcement
As you may have noticed, I have all but stopped updating this site since January… I will be leaving all the content as is, and using this as a sounding board every now and again, but will no longer be talking much about building niche websites, and will no longer take on any new site building projects. I considered selling this site but decided not to.
After years of polishing, trial and error, and finally proving a step-by-step method of planning, building, marketing and maintaining a specific type of website… We developed an iron-clad-action plan and partnered with an investor to take our big ideas to the next level over the next 12-24 months! Without revealing too much information… I can safely say that if you reside in one of the top 75-100 Metro’s in the USA, you will visit one of our unique and very useful websites again soon! (Since we’ve already built several, you may already have!)
The NSB website is permanently on pause… while we build our dreams.

Hey Mark,
I have seomoz.org, seobook.com, blogstorm.co.uk, and shoemoney.com feeds in my rss reader.
Like you, one of my BANS sites has been reindexed after a few years of being out of google. I kept it around because yahoo/bing/msn sent enough buyers to keep it registered. Now that google has it back in the serps I can’t wait to see what it does.
It’s a seasonal (summer) high dollar niche.
Best to your new endeavours
Daniel
Mark,
Gosh, I hate to see you quit updating this site. You have helped me SO MUCH over the last three years. I have learned more from you than anyone else on the web. I can’t thank you enough for all the quality training your have offered and your patience answering my questions when I was completely at a loss. Nobody comes close to you in my opinion.
I’m excited for you and Kim and your new endeavors. You will be a grand success, of that I am sure.
My one BANS site is re-indexed, I think. Even tho’ I have loads of short blog posts, Google is very stingy with sending visitors. I have had 12 (Awstats). I am excited though, because I was planning to rebuild the site anyway with phpBay Pro, so I’m sure Google will like it better when I robot request no index of store pages.
I’m on your mailing list, so if you have more to share, I’ll be listening.
Best wishes,
Julie (who is succeeding as an entrepreneur and loving it)
Hi Mark, I have always enjoyed your Articles, they helped in many ways. I have 4 Bans affiliate sites and just recently realized all 4 are still active. I thought just one was doing some action, but all 4 do something. I haven’t done any work on them in a year, so guess I will get back on the job with them and do some updating. Thanks again for all you have done over the years with Bans. Pat
Dangit Mark! You and your site here have been an inspiration for me, when at one point I thought about giving up and selling what little virtual real estate I had. I’m glad I didn’t! I’m sorry to see you go underground, but good luck with your plan!
As far as what I read to get ahead in IM, I have actually cut down on who I listen to and what I read. I was on way too many email lists, and visited far too many websites to “learn”. I was only distracting myself and falling behind. Now I am only on a couple of email lists, and this site may just be the last RSS feed I am subscribed to. As a result I am now super focused and concentrating on what I know works, instead of searching for the next best thing.
All the best,
Matt
Mark: Your gain is our loss. You have been the mentor for many folks for along time. I regret no having found your site sooner. The best to you and Kim. I am sure whatever you both decide to do will bring success. Like the others I have found that my Ban sites that were tossed out like rotten eggs by Google are now back up and showing. I am glad but at the same time upset with their practices of high and mighty. Anyway what is today may not be tomorrow
ENJOY THE DAY
DaveT
Mark,
Sounds like you’re making the right move. Check in once in a while and let us know your progress.
All the best to you and your family…
Christine
Mark,
It has been a fun ride. I appreciate all of the information you have shared and the guidance you have offered. I’ll still be watching for you emails when you decide to ‘sound off’. With deep gratitude I want to say “Thank you so much” and offer you the best of luck on reaching that next level.
I hate to see you leave but there is one thing we all set out for when starting any business and that is to be the most successful as possible. If we make some friends along the way, well, that is just a bonus. Congrats on your endeavor, and I wish you nothing but success. I’ll be in touch.
As for what you asked, in addition to what Daniel said above, I do like searchengineland.com/ as well. Sometimes, their articles are useless to what I am doing but often they have to some really good articles/ideas as well.
Take care man.
Junior
I have to admit that I’m glad to hear that you are keeping this site, even if it is put on pause. Congratulations to you and Kim for doing so well!
I have no sites to add, since the ones I mostly visit are already in your sidebar, such as Ben’s site.
My BANS sites are now long gone. I have no desire to go back to eBay, but it might be interesting to build a new site using the BANS platform. But, then again, WP makes it so easy to do anything I might want to do that I probably won’t.
Rochelle
I am going to truly miss your wise words that I have followed over the past few years and if it wasn’t for your knowledge and your gracious assistance, this line of business would not have been possible for me. Wishing you and Kim the very best. I am forever grateful! (and sad for my own selfish reasons- always looked forward to receiving your emails and you will be missed)
Kudos for taking the next step. Although I’m doing well, sometimes it feels like purgatory doing the samething.
Thanks for educating others in the field of marketing.
What I’ve been doing is watching other ‘high profile’ IM’s on their Webinars for ideas. Way to keep up with the industry.
Do you have any advice or direct me on ‘list building’ with niche marketing?
Thanks,
Mark and Kim,
Well, the end of an era! Been with you since the beginning. Thanks for the tips and tricks. My knowledge of internet marketing and website construction has expanded exponentially as a result of your tutorage.
All the best in your endevours, and keep in touch.
With respect,
Steve.N
I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavors. Thank you for your time, patience, and assistance of the years.

Hi Mark,
I really want to thank you for all the knowledge that you shared with us along these years (I started with BANS sites some 3 years ago) and avidly read your posts in search of the pearl of wisdom that each one contains.
One thing that amazes me is how you get so much done in a day. When you publish a book on this subject, please let me know because this is a part of the puzzle that I’m still missing…
I wish you and Kim success in your endeavors, because you deserve it.
Thanks
Mark-
I just want to thank you for all that you have posted over the years. Because of you I was introduced to BANS and have made many thousands of dollars as a result. Good luck on any future endeavors.
P.S. I would love if you could do one final update on the “Help Me Give Birth… to a New Website!” post :-) I loved following along, and am curious as to how the site has been doing.
Thanks
Hey Mark,
I’m sorry to hear that but I’m not surprised. I wish you and Kim all the best with your new “direction”, I’m sure it will work out exactly how you want it to.

You’ve been a big help over the years. I know you’ll be back to share a nugget with us here and there even if its just to brag.
Thanks for keeping the site up. I still go back to your old posts and reference those from time to time.
I concur. One last update on your new website would be awesome! Pretty please? ;-p
@Steve.N – Words of wisdom. Look foward to this feed – http://www.sethgodin.com/sg/
Hi,
I’m very happy for you! You deserve your success.
I really learned a lot from you.
Can you let us know how your K2W sites fared with the Farmer update?
Randy
@ All – Again, thanks for the well wishes on the new focus! Its really just that… a VERY strict diet of extremely tight focused strategies! :-)
Great sites Ben… I had forgotten about Matts Blog!
Several have asked me to update the “Build and Launch a New Website“, aka Watch me Give Birth post… and for a bit of insider info, the site used was part of my proof of concept.
I will update that page in the coming week, since its a perfect time for the 6 month update! :-)
I am not going anywhere and will update that page at the 1 year point as well. Thanks again for all the great wishes and thanks!
Mark
