One Less Algo to Deal With, Yahoo Starting the Transition to Bing SERP’s

If you do any kind of SEO on your Niche Sites, you know that:

  • Yahoo likes Backlinks (The more the better!)
  • Bing Likes Crystal Clear and Logical Navigation (Along with Backlinks)
  • Google Likes… well, OK. WTF does Google like? :-)

Anyhow – the playing field just got a bit more narrow… as Yahoo will soon start showing the same results as Bing!

More to come…  but having to focus on two major players versus three should help!

Maybe its time to spread some love to Bing?

@Jonathon – You may actually be right Jonathon. Lack of competition is never a good thing for the market.

    Thanks for the comment!

I have been dreading this. I make 80% of my money via Yahoo Search so it could spell big trouble for me. I’ve been working on improving Bing rankings all year so hopefully that will help.

However, I can’t see anything good about it. I actually think it will play into Google’s hands. Yahoo search market share will become 0% but what will the Bing increase be? Searchers who like Yahoo will have to make a choice and my preference is Google over Bing anyway!

    Bad news.

I’m in a similar boat as you are Mike. I hardly use google for anything, but have been keeping track of keyword rankings lately as I try for organic traffic vs ppc.

@Mark – this could be part of the Yahoo – Bing paid search advertising transition, as they are combining their paid search advertising units under Bing.

    @ Mike and Sean -

I have been planning my complete exit from Google services for months – aka – gmail, adsense, adwords, analytics, etc. Its NOT an easy thing to do!

Just following along in MCutts footsteps of doing away with things for 30 days at a time, Google seems like a good thing to try! LOL

You were right Mark. Thought it was only for Paid Search, but the transition involves Organic Results as well.

Quoted by comscore: Bing results will be displayed for approximately 30% of overall search query market share after this change.

It is in progress, I’ve noticed an increase in paid traffic results. Go go gadget, unless it’s the seasonal trend, Back To School Stuff is already in the stores and the Southern states typically go back first.
