PageRank Update In Progress – April 2010 – Happy Easter!

Google should have done this on April 1st – well, just because it would have made GREAT April Fools fodder for the web commune.

Anyhow – It looks like there is a rollout of pagerank being updated to the toolbar.

For those unaware… PageRank from Google is a measure of your sites authority, based on how reputable OTHER websites view your content. If nothing more, it is one of the only visible metrics we have into Google Algo.

PageRank is actually updated ALL THE TIME, but the push to the toolbar, which is the number you see in Google toolbar, or whatever other method you use to view it, is only exported about every 3-6 months.

Anyhow – Happy Easter and Share your Own PR Update below!

Happy Easter Mark! Not many changes my end, my blog went from 2 to 3 and a few sites lost and few gained, in particular had one old BANS site go from 2 to 4 :)…

I question whether the toolbar PR display is now as outdated as previously thought. I launched a site about three weeks ago, and it now has a PR1. Not that it means anything, the whole PR thing being almost as imponderable as QCP. I have another site that’s almost two years old, for example, that still has a PR of zero. Yet, it gets tons of traffic and converts very well.

    So, go figure.

Congrats Anand and Ben on the PR rush!

Potentmix – I rarely even look at PR, as it has no effect at all on whether a site is putting money in my pocket or not. Same deal.. I have some PR4 sites doing little, and well aged PR0 sites that earn $xxx/day!

That said… it DOES give a pretty good view into the quality of relationships, both in and outbound!

FWIW, about two days after launch I blasted the PR1 site with about 40 contextual links on blog posts on different IPs. It’s actually had a couple of Amazon conversions, so far, and earned a little AdSense and EPN revenue. And, It ain’t the thickest site around by any stretch of the imagination.

    Happy Belated Easter to all.

No changes on my end that I can see, but, like Mark, I don’t put much stock into PR on my sites.
