PepperJam Network Responds to ePN Questions

RevolutionHave you signed up with PepperJam yet? If not, What are you waiting for? Become a PepperJam Publisher Today!

Since the PepperJam Affiliate Network announced they will be in a partnership with eBay and the eBay Partner Network, there have been several questions regarding how the new system may benefit an existing ePN publisher.

I took several of those questions and sent them in to Mandy at PJ. While every question we have cannot be addressed in an email, I think she answered the most pressing questions in a way that is very easy to understand!

Q:If I am a member of the PepperJam Network and choose to take advantage of your eBay Partner Network offer, is it possible for one publisher to risk the entire program through PJN?

A:Pepperjam Network (PJN) and eBay are under contract, which protects PJN and PJN affiliates from this type of thing happening.  Also, Pepperjam Network is focused on working with high quality affiliates – we take a much more hands-on approach then other networks to ensure that our advertisers such as eBay get high quality transactions from Pepperjam Network affiliates.  We have a dedicated team of eBay affiliate managers here at Pepperjam Network to help affiliate maximize eBay revenues – we will remain on top of things and we are confident that eBay (and PJN affiliates) will look back on this and know they made a great decision to partner with PJN!

This should ease everyone’s mind who thought your hard work could be negated by one rogue publisher, causing eBay to cancel every account in the PJN partner program with eBay. It simply won’t happen!

The next question was in regard to the difference in payout structure through the PepperJam Network:

Q: Aside from the higher payouts listed on the PJN site, what other benefits would we as publishers realize by joining the PepperJam Network?

A: Unfortunately, eBay is requiring us to offer eBay affiliates on Pepperjam Network the same payout structure available on EPN.  However, we are talking with eBay to figure out a creative solution to incentivize eBay affiliates on PJN.

Originally, the payout structure on PJN was slightly higher than that of joining the program directly. (Read post) Apparently, after reviewing the system, PepperJam was required by eBay to match it exactly, thus removing the incentive of affiliate publishers to jump from one (eBay ePN) to the other (PJN).

Mandy continues by saying:

We believe there are several key reasons why affiliates would want to join and promote the eBay program on PJN.

  1. First, we have a dedicated team of eBay affiliate managers here at Pepperjam Network to help affiliates maximize eBay revenues.  Our goal is to give eBay affiliates on Pepperjam Network white glove service.
  2. Second, Pepperjam Network is independent – what that means is that we are here to promote your interests to eBay.
  3. Third, we are absolutely committed to providing you with the same (and better) tools that EPN currently offers – for instance, we currently offer affiliates the ability to promote eBay using pepperjamADS – pepperjamADS is an affiliate marketing widget that allows PJN affiliates to mix and mash contextual ads from one or more PJN merchants partners (including eBay).  Moreover, we are in the process of introducing eBay’s advanced links, such as flash and video (our technology is already in place – we are waiting for eBay to provide us with source files).

There were several key takeaways I got from the email exchange with Mandy this morning. First and foremost, the PJN folks are behind this 100% of the way and most importantly, behind US as affiliate publishers. After all, they are just a carrier of sorts, carrying our visitors over to the eBay system and tracking those visitors along the way. Without publishers like ourselves, there are no visitors, which makes any program meaningless.

In regard to even getting an email response… have you tried to contact anyone in the eBay ePN lately? Several weeks ago when the feed was down, I logged onto my ePN account and used the contact form to send a message to them explaining the problem. I did get a reply… 4 days later… saying they would look into it! Of course, the problem was corrected within 1-2 hours, but the email and contact system has always left a bit to be desired when it comes to eBay. By having a more personalized account manager through PJN, at least I feel a bit more connected to one of the places I rely on for income! I for one, will welcome the ability to contact someone and actually feel important!

In addition, having a team of professional marketing guru’s working to develop creative ways of displaying and advertising ads on our sites, saves us the time of finding them or creating them ourselves.

Even though the payout structure is identical, I feel that PepperJam deserves the chance to help us grow in our affiliate marketing efforts. After all, that’s all they want from us anyhow… the chance to show how much different they are from the rest! Click here to join the PepperJam Network

Sounds like they are an excellent go-between and would bring more power with a group for suggesting future changes and enhancements to the eBay affiliate program than individuals speaking to EPN on their own.

Thanks for the update… and I’m anxious to see the new exciting changes and challenges that you have planned!

    Thanks,
    Jamie

    Hi all,

Why would we want to place another company between us and ebay? Tried that once, it was called commission junction!

I will stick with EPN for now. One less hurdle between me and my money to jump.

PS: I am a member of PJ, and CJ. Hmmm…

Mark, is there something in particular we need to do to get accepted to the eBay program on PPJ other than click on the link to join? I’ve been using PPJ for banners for a while, but I registered for eBay more than a week ago and it’s still pending.

It all looks good Mark but as the PJ eBay relationship only extends to eBay US at this time The rest of the world will have to wait. When I asked Kris at PJ he was unable to give even an estimated date for this to happen. So it’s a waiting game right now. I do like the idea of better marketing tools though :)

@ Sherrin, Mark may have another suggestion but I’ll tell you what i did, i got impatient as i usually do so i got on PJ’s website and initiated a chat session. The lady was very nice and wanted to see one of my sites so i gave her one to look at and in about 30 seconds she approved me.. you may want to give that shot to hurry things along..

    @ Sherrin –

I was already a PJ member before this, but it still took about 7-10 days to get approved for the program. Jeff’s idea seemed to work good though!

    @ BGP –

True, it is US only right now, but Im sure once they have the initial program set, it is just a matter of time before they have the rest of the programs included.

Having been a partner with the PepperJam Network for a while I know that their affiliate reports interface is a lot more intuitive and attractive than EPNs. However, I question the advantage of funneling my BANS sites thru PJN. Afterall, they too are an affiliate of EPN and we will be giving up our affiliate status with EPN to become sub affiliates of PJN, relinquishing our EPN tracking, reporting and commission payouts to PJN. Before I switch my BANS sites to PJN I want to see a clear advantage upfront prior to doing all the work to update all my sites (again) to a new affiliate tracking system. Although PJN seems very professional they are relatively new kid on the block and don’t have a track record, so there is a lot at stake here. Especially considering the time and effort it will take to switch all BANS sites from EPN to PJN.

Disregard my previous comment. I sent an email and was approved instantly.

    @ Dianne -

    I could not agree more!!

I dont think I will switch any of my existing BANS sites over to the new program, but will definitely use it for testing and inclusion on new sites to compare the two.

I think the main advantages will come in the service and creative support from PJN versus any real difference in the ePN itself.

Well only time will tell which is better EPN or PJN BUT if you look towards the incentive part of the article there is some mention of new ad structures and conjoined ad networks like CJ.

qoute “we are in the process of introducing eBay’s advanced links, such as flash and video (our technology is already in place – we are waiting for eBay to provide us with source files)”

That would be my only incentive to join.
