Preparing for the Worst with a Little Planning now!

August 11, 2008

RevolutionThe forums at eBay have been wild with people getting their ePN Affiliate accounts closed! Many BANS users have seen the same thing happen over the past week and I started talking about it on Friday.

As many of you know, I setup a Pepperjam account for a few sites more than a month ago when the PJN started offering the eBay program in their network. in the short 30-45 days that I have been using it, the results are not that much different than those directly from eBay, in fact, the sites are so new… they are performing just like they would anywhere.

You can read more about my initial thoughts on the PJN here and here

How does this help you Prepare?

Simply put… you are moving some of your eggs out of the ePN basket and into the hands of a third party! If you are one of the unlucky folks who gets an email from eBay tomorrow telling you that your account is closed, you DO have the ability to appeal the finding, after all… it appears to be an algorithm that is doing the work at this point. It will however take time… time that you cannot afford to waste if you have an active site!

Before you go and get a PepperJam account, make sure you aren’t violating the ePN guidelines as they will just root you out of the PJN as well. You aren’t signing up to try and bypass doing something wrong, just continue with business as usual, while you work out the error with ePN.

If you are running your sites as most of us are, driving organic search traffic to a content rich site that also has an affiliate program, it can only help you to diversify a little! Swapping an existing site to the PJN network is simple enough, but you do have to know that there is no way to track individual sites at this point. One id covers all sites in the PJN eBay affiliate program.

The PJN has MUCH MORE than just the eBay program as well and I use them for MANY advertiser banners on some of my busier sites! The advertisers and support staff at PJN are the friendliest I have met from any other network and they respond to questions as soon as you ask! Heck, they even have a live chat window on their system so you can ask questions of the account managers before you sign up for individual advertisers! Try finding that at ePN or CJ!

The most important thing in all of this… your eBay affiliate sites can continue to earn while you appeal the ePN response!

Hey Mark, I already have converted my BANS to PJN. Does ePN maybe even block the domains from expired BANS affiliates?

    Hi Mark,

I successfully joined PJN after one of your earlier posts and signed up to the ebay program.

That’s it for now as I was busy integrating wp into my stores.

Moving forward, can the PJN bans sites integrate with wp the same way as the normal bans templates do.
Also for your templates like bans flex and css simple are they compatible with PJN?

    Thanks

    Shelley

    @ Manuel -

I have never had to register any url’s with eBay, other than the very first. I dont think you need to worry about url issues…

@ Shelley - Yes, they should work fine.

The ONLY difference in BANS PJN and BANS EPN, is the wording in the admin setup and the link for tracking, which is changed in the frontcontrol and index.php files.

I dont even think the database fieldname is different.

I started using PJ the day it was announced we had a BANS Mod for it, and have been very happy with it. Probably the only company that you can pick up a phone and have a person answer the phone. The site is loaded with learning tools blogs too.. I plan on being 50/50 for epn sites

    Hi Mark,

I did end up getting an expired account email yesterday and for the life of me I don’t know why, but I have sent them an email explaining that I have not knowingly done anything wrong and that I was just starting to build up my business and that I would appreciate it if they’d let me know what the problem is with my account.

I received an email back from them saying that my email had been forwarded to the account dept for review.

I have just signed up and been approved today by PepperJam on your recommendation and will be checking their network up now.

Thanks for the input on how to try to overcome this situation as I was a bit stumped and dismayed to start with and felt a bit like giving up. Now I have renewed hope that things will be ok.

    Hi Mark,

    My question is:
I converted my BANS to PJN.
And because of that my EPN campaign IDs stayed behind and idle because now I am using PJ ID#.

Do I have to delete my EPN campaigns - or jump out from EPN affiliate program?

    Thanks in advance,

    Monica

Also did you get this from PJ?

When I received this below, I froze!!!
