Random Thoughts on a Day with a Hangover!

So… last night, myself and couple friends got together for Poker Night…  Poker night is nothing more than a night of drinking and talking about current events etc. Well, for some reason, we decided to kill a bottle of Crown Royal last night in light of the George Bush news conference! Poker led to another game, Monopoly, to see who could bust the bank first by borrowing the most money and then foreclosing on all their properties. Whether it was the bottle of crown or the irresponsible lending practices we set for the bank, the game was ended within 1 hour! Today… I have a bad hangover and decided to simply post a few tidbits from the past week or two.

 Anyone Looking for Cheap – Used – Women?

Aside from the search benefits of optimizing your BANS categories, you don’t want to send the wrong message to your visitors! Many times, when someone asks me to help with a site, regardless of the reason or need they have, the first thing I do is check the site indexing. After all, I want to be sure that the work about to be done is not wasted on a deindexed site, which is more common that I like to admit!

Last week, I helped someone with a template install on a site, and then this morning, I went back to look at what he had done on it since. As mentioned above… optimizing those BANS categories should be done! Look at what I saw in the Google Serp’s:

Actually, it was an email… This is really a quickly developing story, but I have seen some aspects of the plugin and am awaiting further info from the developer! You can rest assured that as soon as I get it, I will review it here!

Forget Global – Think Locally!

Over at the JTPratt Blogging Mistakes site, John has posted an article about how you can focus your efforts on building Backyard Local Websites for Income! I can tell you beyond doubt that getting a local site to rank well is far easier than a global site! Have you even noticed when you search G, there are many localized results showing in the serp’s or paid sidebars? You see, Google knows where you live thanks to cookies and it displays the ads and sites it feels are most relevant to your search, based on that location! This is commonly called… Local Search!

I have managed MANY local sites for several years – every one of them enjoy stellar rankings and produce highly targeted traffic for their respective owners every month! Soon, I will focus on how to build a Geo site using not only WordPress, but BANS as well!

Make Sure you Activate those new Plugins!

Jeff from Senjo Marketingshot me an email this morning (or was it last night?) reminding me that the wp-cache plugin from yesterdays post is a bit tricky! Even though you activated the plugin in the plugin tool section, you still have to visit the plugin configuration screen and actually turn it on! Otherwise, it just sits there looking like its working, when in reality… its just sitting there!

Go to the Settings link in WordPress admin > Choose the wp-cache link > Click on “Enable”.

I actually started recordings yesterday on every single plugin I mentioned and quickly realized, I use them differently than others may use them! During one of the recordings, I decided it would be best for everyone to go to the developers sites and read how they are intended to be used, versus using them like me! For instance, the redirect plugin has MANY features… I only use 1 of them! It would be unfair of me to review only that one method and leave everything else hanging in the thin air… so I decided to scrap the usage directions!

Like it or Not – Some Search Engines don’t like BANS!

Just for for my own morbid curiosity in the month of September, I have applied a star to every email I have gotten from folks asking if, or why their sites have been deindexed from search. As of this morning, I have 92 emails over the past 24 days! Just so you understand the importance of this, most of those emails have lists of MANY websites in them that were dropped! By far, the most compelling was an email where the owner has more than 100 sites, every single one of them dropped from the index!

If anyone has wondered why I have been placing so much focus on building WordPress websites, then adding BANS and other forms of affiliate pages as just another part of the overall site… now you know. 

On the flip side of this, I have seen much better quality of BANS sites over the past several months! including my own…
