Created 2/14/08
JeepBumper.com was purchased at a Godaddy Expired Domain Auction on 2/4/08. It was transferred into my name on 2/12/08. Site was created on 2/14/08. What I really love about this name is that – it’s generic – it’s aged – screams niche. On the Page 2 of Google for Jeep Bumper.
Costs: $ 20.19 for the Expired Domain Name
Sales:
2/20/08 2 Sales $ .98 cents
2/23/08 2 Sales $ 3.75
Stats: I use Plesk for my hosting control panel. From the stats that others have posted, mine will be in a different format.
Google, Yahoo, and MSN have crawled the site. MSN-Live is the top search referrer. Followed by Yahoo, then Google.

Niche 2: Bass Boats for Sale
Created 2/20/08
BassBoatAuctions.com is a new domain purchase. I was somewhat hesitant to get into this highly competitive boat market, but I have created a couple of articles that have high KEI. Another reason I created the site is because someday I will upgrade to a better boat (It’s a dream of mine to have a nice boat.) and the boating season should start for the northern states pretty soon, time for me to go fishing. I could have easily used another domain for Niche 2, but I wanted it to be very narrow. I purchased another expired domain name on the same day I got JeepBumper, it’s called BuyBoatsOnline.com, but I’ll save it for further development later on down the road.
Cost: $ 7.82 for the Domain Name
Sales:
0
Notes:
On 2/25/08 I utilized WebCeo (free version) to submit the site to 30+ search engines and directories. I did not submit the site to Google or Yahoo because these bots are already in the site stats.
Stats:
Just referrals from the bots crawling the site.

Eric/Mark,
Absolutely love the series. It’s incredibly interesting to see the different things people are putting together.
One quick question about eric’s domain. Since Jeep is a registered trademark of the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation is there any possibility of them calling eric up and saying “Take your site down please, you’ve infringed on our trademark!”
My reason for asking is I have several domains researched and available, but all contain a trademarked name in them.
Any light you can shed on the subject would be more than helpful.
Sean,
Sorry, multiple tabs open got me on this one. This question is really directed to you.
Hey Eric,
I did do a little research on this, but my basic research was searching the web for similar names that contained the jeep term. I found a lot. I am a proud jeep owner and know that there are a lot of jeep fan sites. With this particular name I went ahead and devoted a site to it since I know there are related sites. From experience, some businesses are stringent when it comes to protecting their trademark, while others are more lenient. It also depends on how they want to protect their trademark. My only advice is to be cautious and give the TM name respect.
The site looks great! Its clean, with a great header, and I see it doing very well.. very soon!
@ Jeff -
The whole trademark thing is risky for sure… A BANS site is never going to be as popular as an Amazon, ebay, Yahoo etc… so the corporate channels are less likely to find your site and make an issue out of it, since you are not really using their name in more conventional advertising like TV, etc.
All said… If the powers of Jeep wanted to have it pulled down, they probably could.
I have a few “Trademark-item. com” sites myself, they have converted well in short time also… and while I wouldn’t be shocked to get a cease and desist letter, it is worth the risk.
Mark,
Thanks for your take on this. I know there has been much discussion in the BANS forum on this topic. Nonetheless I registered and put together a site at:
http://www.GarminGPSinthe.us
I haven’t done a lot with it SEO wise as after I registered it was when I found the threads talking about the potential problems. For now I am thinking, do as much as I can and try to reap the benefits of taking the risk.
Looking forward to the rest of the series. Keep up the GREAT work.
Jeff
