Spring Cleaning Week at The Niche Store Builder!
Like I mentioned in a post on Friday, Spring is in the air and its time for a thorough spring cleaning of many areas within your own Niche Store Building efforts. Throughout this week, we will look at several different areas you should visit on both your sites and your affiliations, to clean them up for the new season! Today, I am going to summarize the weeks posts, so you have an idea of what to expect! If you do not see something listed you might want covered, drop a comment in the box at the bottom! I cannot promise it will be covered, but I will do my best to try!
Spring Cleaning your ePN Campaign Account List
As we have all read over the past 6-12 months, the folks at ePN have gotten quite a bit tighter in how they approve new affiliates! They routinely review new and established accounts, and have steadily been weeding out thin affiliates, or affiliates who are not bringing any value to their network. While nobody knows the exact formula they use, there are a few things we can probably assume to be true.
Tuesday, I will go through a few quick steps to evaluate your ePN campaigns, and eliminate those which are not performing!
Spring Cleaning of your Hosting Account
We all do it… Upload new files to our hosting account for use on a site or two, find out it didn’t work as expected, and they end up sitting there taking up space and building clutter in our hosting account. On Tuesday, I am going to walk through a few quick and easy ways of cleaning up your hosting account, as well as the files we may have inadvertently left in our individual website folders.
Spring Cleaning of your Domain Inventory
If you are like me, you tend to get an idea, do some basic research, and buy a domain for the project! In my case, these domains can tend to build up and never be used for anything other than filler content in my GoDaddy domain manager! On Weds, we are going to review all the domains we have purchased and forgot about until they pop up for renewal. We will explore ways to either focus and get them developed, or list them for sale elsewhere! Read the post on Spring Cleaning your Domain Inventory.
Spring Cleaning of your WordPress Sites
How many of you have this nagging message at the top of your WordPress admin: “A New Version of WP is available…..” On Thursday, I will talk about the easiest ways to keep your WordPress installation up to date and free of clutter, as well as ways you can make sure you get the most out of WordPress by developing good habits on each installation. Check out the Spring Cleaning of WordPress Websites post.
Spring Cleaning of your Build a Niche Store Sites
Regardless of the ups and downs we have all experienced with BANS over the past 8-12 months, it still works very well to build substantial passive income! On Friday, I am going to walk through a series of quick tips you can use to first determine if the sites are worth keeping, then the different ways you can build or rebuild them, to get the most out of them and AVOID being deindexed for having a thin affiliate site!
Stay Tuned… its going to be a very informative and fun week!
If I missed anything you may want to see covered, just drop a note in the comments below… I will do my best to fit it in!

Hello
would it be possible for you to let us know how much income you are still generating with your bans shops and how much you used to earn?
thanks!
@thierryf1968 … I know you were not directing the question at others but felt the need to respond…
From starting from scratch a year ago, and not knowing anything, but following most of Mark’s teaching and some experimenting. I earned around 10k last year. I know that is not alot(cannot quit my job yet) but, from a very new marketer to that amount is good with me.
From a ROI stand point, I invested around 20 % of that into startup and continuing the developement, which most was spent after I started to see a good profit, so most of the money that was spent was earned money and not my own..
I hope this will inspire someone who is on the fence..after all we are all sometimes on the fence :)
@ Thierry –
I have never posted the earnings amount on any of my sites… I just don’t like to do that!
I HAVE provided ranges of earnings though… BANS, or ePN as a whole, is the second highest affiliate income on all my sites!
I have some sites that make only a couple hundred dollars each month, several others that do much better, and yet several others that do much worse, or produce little to no income at all!
The level of income on each site is 100% directly related to how much time I spend on them.

Mark-
Thanks for walking us through the spring cleaning! I’m very interested in how to completly clean out non-performing sites.
Mark:
Thanks for the poke to get things cleaned up.
I have about 15 BANS sites that have been de-indexed and some are still getting some traffic that is buying. Not much though.
I would like to know what you suggest for these sites? Should I build links and think of them as still via-able or should I can them? Or, should I turn them into a WP blog and have ebay posted along with Amazon and video.
Thanks again for your work.
w.
looking forward to the domain/website clean up. I have several sites I would really like to get rid of and would hate to just let them expire.
I hate spring cleaning (my house), but this is the first time I am looking forward to do some spring cleaning. I think it will be very helpful and informative, like all of Marks tips.
@ Warren –
Check out this post. It works wonders for sites that G does not like!

Concerning spring cleaning by scrapping deindexed sites:
For a site that never got going well before it was de-indexed by Google, but it has promise if I put some work into it.
I’m wondering if you would recommend my getting a new domain and setting it up with a WP blog on the root and move the deindexed BANS store to a folder of the new domain. Is there an easy way to move the whole thing, or must I start from scratch and build one BANS page at a time.
Great idea. Do you advocate the use of PPC for driving traffic to the bans sites. And if you do, do you, yourself use this model and how has it performed for you?
It’s interesting, because maintenance of my hosting, blogs and domains is something that I’ve always been good at – I usually do a clean up on Hostgator once a month – deleting any databases and folders associated with websites that I’ve sold etc..
I have around 30 domains at the moment, so maintenance is no where close to your 300+ domains.. but I still make it a point to log into GoDaddy every month or so for the purpose of evaluating my portfolio and seeing how I can monetize any domains that I have sitting around.
Great post- decided some 6 months ago not to build any more bans sites and went the way of WordPress blogs using PhpBay Pro-however after reading your clean up post-shock -sites that I created a year ago with bans were still making money-of course I listened to Mark and put good content on them-however have done nothing more with them-it makes me ask the question-Wordpress blogs take me huge effort with hardly any earnings-Bans is still earning me some small dollars with 4 sites-my question to readers and Mark is this-Have we got smarter using Bans?and is it worth really putting the effort into them -remembering blogs seem to create huge work-even decided to buy lots of domains with go Daddy and redirect them to affiliate programs-then played with Adwords and promptly blew $400 for the month with a $200 earn-result misery-that was a great learning curve-with only 5 sorry 4 now Bans sites I make around $50-small but I am earning ! starting to feel i should consider Bans again with a really good looking site-maybe a lower gravity product or rather niche that will not upset Google-have spent another $500 joining different learning curves-here I am back again with Mark going back to basics-Marks post is correct -clean up move on and learn from a great Guru-well done Mark-back in the fold!! Must admit your info is free and very good
