Stopping to Smell the Rose… eww – It Smells Like Fish!
ePN has started shutting down Affiliate Accounts!
This is really just developing now, so pardon the intrusion into your Friday! I got back from dropping one of my boys off and had several emails from people asking me if ePN was down today. They couldn’t login and check stats! Well, I jumped over to my own account and everything was fine.. so I immediately went into the BANS forums to see if anyone else had experienced the same thing as the emails. It looks like a few BANS users have been dropped from ePN!
I don’t think its safe to assume there is an issue with BANS itself, because there are simply too many stores out there doing well. What is unknown at this point, is WHY they were dropped!
There was a discussion on the forum about it and within just a few minutes of being open… that post was deleted by someone, I assume a moderator or maybe even Adam or Kelvin.
I did notice in the discussion that one person was using PPC as a means to drive traffic, but never made it past the first set of posts before it was deleted.
Might be worth logging in to see your stats!

Hi Mark -
I saw the posts you’re talking about on the forum this morning also – a few had received emails from EPN saying their accounts had been terminated and others saying they couldn’t login. I checked mine immediately and it was ok. Just got home from errands and checked it again. Transaction download is showing sales and ACRUS waiting to be posted so I’m breathing a sigh of relief for today and crossing my fingers and toes for tomorrow and the future.

@ Sherrin -
I read on the forum from Kelvin that someone has backed into the forum again, eliminating 2 accounts and deleting a few posts.
Hopefully they will have it sorted with the forum migration on Monday.
Actually it was me reporting about doing PPC for my own BANS sites. I could not think that this was the reason from dropping down. From what I have seen on my last login I had 3-4 acrus which I didn’t had in the previous month. Maybe thats the reason I don’t know. All in all I had an ePN account for exactly nearly two months.
Glad I joined pJN and can run my stores even without ePN ;-)
I wouldn’t say it’s an issue with ACRUs, nearly all my income comes from ACRUs because I target niches where people would be so desperate to purchase -right goddamn now- that it overcomes their resistance to signing up.
I have a question and I know it may sound stupid but where do I go to download the new bans? All I have is the old files.

Oh dear.
I haven’t been able to log in to check on my massive $30 I made last month (no PPC here) and couldn’t find any information on the net as to whether there was some problem with EPN so I thought it must just be me.
Tried resetting my password and emailing the company. Nothing.
Thanks for posting about this – at least I have some clue as to what is possibly happening.
These big companies that can just ruin a person’s business or at least a part of it with the flick of a switch are just no good really are they? At least I haven’t got much to lose – yet.
I’ll be making sure my future income is not dependent on these hunkering great companies.
I hope this is a mistake but it doesn’t look like it.
I found it :) had to do alot of digging but I found it.

Hi all,
Manuel: may I ask:

What’s pJN?
and everybody else: what’s an ACRUS?
Thanks guys (I’m new :) )
There has been a increase in posts about account log in and revocation on the ePN board over the last few days. Scary stuff for those of us who have grown to depend on the income.
It would be nice if these companies would just be clear on exactly what & what not to do. There is so much bad info about SEM that I can see innocent people making a mistake and paying the ultimate price.
Just exactly what did they do ?
Why don’t they give warnings ?
Should I take down old undeveloped sites built before I learned.
Are the major ePN promoters like AOL making them enough $ so they can just start eliminating accounts? I don’t think so. Publicly held companies want every penny.
I want to write and ask these questions but that would put me in the line of fire for a manual review.
They have by the B***s for sure.
From all I have been reading on the ePN forums, it looks like this was an automated thing, where accounts that did “A+B+C” or some other programmer defined algo we automatically suspended.
It also looks that some of the people who are contacting eBay and asking about it, are getting them reinstated…
So it may have just been a bad choice on their part, thats being corrected… who knows.
ACRU = Active Confirmed Registered User (New eBay signup)
PJN = PepperJam Network is a third party affiliate network that manages its own eBay affiliate program. You can go and sign up for an account through them as well. If something happens with your eBay account, at least you have a fallback.
Mark
Thanks for explaining those terms Mark,
And thanks for all the info – I’ve just got started with BANS and I have a handful of sites, all new and not performing yet… so I’m hoping for the best.
cheers
Jose
Thankfully I’ve not had my account terminated as yet. My worry is that from the moment I switched to EPN I’ve not had a single ACRU and can’t work out why. If anyone can shed some light on that I’d be eternally grateful. The last thing I need is being shut down because of that.
Cherie
Likewise I’m thankful that I’ve not had my account terminated nor any of any of my sites de-indexed. Sorry for anyone who has been affected. The worry is that the “big boys” like Google and Ebay just do these things without warning.
Like many other members on here I work full-time and then spend a lot of time on my BANS and phpBay sites in the hope that some day there will be enough income earned to run the business full-time. So far the income earned is minimal so a full-time job is still a requirement.
However, irrespective of the earnings, if Ebay and Google effectively shut businesses down with no warning then some sort of a regular job may always be required if ever Google or Ebay pull the plug. It must be so soul destroying to have it happen. What a nightmare.
Any new news on this? I have to think it’s some type of automated algo ebay has in place for the upcoming ACRU tier thing and it’s cancelling accounts on whatever criteria they set up. If that’s the case, I hope they do the right thing and reinstate anyone who did nothing wrong.
I rather have them just eliminate the ACRU all together or better yet, only credit us the ACRU if the new user wins an auction. This way, we all would know that the new user is of better quality for the most part.
@ Jay -
No real change yet. If you view the ePN forums, you will see it is more active with people who have been getting shut down. The deeper you drill into the forum, the more you read unfortunately…
One thing for sure – its NOT a BANS only issue!
Hi Guys,
I joined BANS in October 2007, and have been building quality sites upto the total of 24. The income generated from BANS is being utilised to replace my ill wifes income and to support my children. I have sacrificed quality family time over the last 9 months working 18 hour days on all my sites. Much to my wifes dismay I have spent much needed money on essential keyword research tools and directory submission. The results were starting to look promising. Then only 3 weeks ago my BANS sites have been delisted off Google, this was devastating to my traffic levels. I had previously had in excess of 20,000 click throu’s to Ebay. Now my click throughs have dropped to 800 a day. Then this morning I have got the absolutely devasting news that Ebay (EPN) will be closing my account in 7 days. I am absolutely seething and I don’t know how to break the news to my wife and children, I am at my wits end after spending so much money and spending so much time building my sites. I am seriously worried for all other BANS users that relie on this sort of income. Can anyone please see the way forward.
Hi all,
I wanted to post this on here on Sunday but I ended up getting quite sick with the flu and unable to sit at the computer for more than a few minutes but I just had to write back about my own eBay EPN account after reading David’s comment today…
When I found myself locked out of my EPN account, I ended up emailing eBay back using their online contact form as a guest and gave them my eBay email address etc, and I explained to them how I had been working hard to build up my business and making more sites and getting traffic through proper methods and nothing sneaky. I explained how I had done nothing wrong as far as I knew and asked if they would review my situation as I was very upset about things.
It took days and days for them to get back to me and I was thinking I had little chance of hearing anything good back, but I was wrong.
They wrote back to me last Sunday and told me they had reviewed my case according to all that I had told them and they were satisfied I had not done anything wrong and they re-instated my account and said I would get my commissions paid that I had already made that were pending.
I can’t tell you how happy I was – and still am – that they did that. Unfortunately I’ve been so ill since that I haven’t been able to do anything more on my sites etc. But hopefully soon I will.
So David, give it a go yourself and write to them and just plead your case to them. Hopefully they will see you are a genuine guy trying to build a solid business and re-instate your account. I can’t promise it – maybe I just was very fortunate, but it’s worth trying – especially with the success you were having and the situation that you explained on here. I wasn’t doing all that well as yet, but just starting to see the light.
Best wishes
Janelle
When you write them….be extremely polite and humble and it will get you a lot further than ranting and raving too.
Some of those expelled have tried the tough guy routine and were not reinstated.
