UnOfficial ePN Affiliate Survey – Sound Off Now!

I got an email from a member of the ePN community yesterday… If you have ever used the forum at BANS, phpBay, eBay Partner Network forum, or read more than 10 articles on this site, you would know who he is and immediately recognize the name. Anyhow, I jumped into a conversation on the ePN forum where the new head of ePN asked for feedback, and 90 answers later, still had not responded.

Anyhow – he pointed me to the Unofficial ePN Affiliate Survey, and invited me to sound off and be heard.

According to the site:

The eBay Partner Network (ePN) has been heavily promoting their new Quality Click Pricing (QCP) payout method since it started back in October 2009. In less than six months they have won two awards from other affiliate related organizations and they like to use their blog to profile specific affiliates doing well.

But do these awards and hand-picked affiliate profiles reflect the current overall opinion of ePN by their affiliates?

As an active ePN affiliate or as a professional affiliate marketer thinking about joining the eBay Partner Network, wouldn’t you be better served by knowing what experienced ePN affiliates think of the program?

This survey attempts to discover what current eBay affiliates think of the program as of 2010. Our hope is that the results will allow you to compare your opinions of the program to your peers and to allow those thinking about joining the eBay Partner Network to make an informed decision before committing valuable resources to the program.

If You’re Happy & You Know it, Clap your Hands!

Serious… be real and share exactly how you feel! If you are doing better with the new ePN system, make sure you say so!

Take the Unofficial ePN Affiliate Survey today!

Wow, I took a look at the results so far. I hope the powers-that-be don’t ignore what so many people have expressed.

The results could have been predicted by a monkey.
The recent drop in stocks for eBay reflects how its only a matter of time before eBay dissolves. They put out estimates that where obviously going to be way off. They could get pulled into court by the SEC very soon for not updating the predictions when they learned they where so far off.
When researching other sites in my newest niche know one promotes eBay unless they cant get into other programs. The niche is very hot now too. In fact eBay probably has the largest inventory of the product in one place.
They are missing out by being the way they are now.
    IMO

While I’m not happy with the lack of transparency, I’m extremely happy that I’m making 50% to 60% more in earnings every month thanks to the QCP.

The problem with survery are you are only going to get a very small portion of actual affiliates who participate there and most of them are the ones earning less so it looks worse than it is.

A real survry would be like the one eBay sent to ALL the affialites only this time they should post the results instead of keeping them to themselves.

Who knows, tomorrow my EPC could tank and then I’ll be unhappy but until then, EPC all the way!!

EPN will figure out some way to turn that survey from “WE SUCK” to “WE’RE THE BEST AFFILIATE ON THE PLANET”

Wouldn’t it be awesome if they LISTENED and went back to the old system?

Although most surveyed say they would prefer the old payment system, the real focus isn’t about QCP vs. CPC. It seems to be on the apparent distrust of those in charge at ePN. Watching the numbers on this survey as they increase daily, it’s obvious that hardly anyone trusts the ePN management to treat them fairly or with respect. With this in mind, it isn’t too likely any official survey ePN sent out would have been answered with complete honesty for fear of petty retaliation. That’s probably also whey ePN’s official forum doesn’t seem to have more than a handful of active users left on it.

I just went and looked at the results to date… Almost every question that has to do with belief or trust, from the QCP filters, to the expiration of accounts, has a pretty high rate of negative value. (+80% do not believe or trust)

The telling question to me, and I have been in the exact position, is the last question.

“Would you recommend ePN to other affiliates?” – Almost 80% say no.

So, I know that many of us have jacked eBay in but I still have a few sites which earn some decent although nowhere near as much as in the old days.

Today I decided to write to ebay support and I got an answer within 3 hours (must be some sort of record) I got fed up with selling items for $3000 and only getting $33 commission back when other items selling for around $400 were getting $31 commission. I didn’t understand it and so asked, not expecting anything less than the usual stock answer. To my surprise I got a real answer that I understood (or at least some of it was real). So for those of you who may not know how they arrive at the commission (and I am probably in the minority – here is the answer for what it’s worth) – an edited version

“what you see in the transaction download report in the
Amount column is eBay’s revenue. In the past, in the CPA pricing system,
you received a percentage of this amount as commission “…

Now you receive a percentage of eBay’s revenue.

“In particular, we look for purchases that happen as a direct result of the publisher’s marketing efforts. Therefore, the Quality Click Pricing algorithm places more weight on Buy It Now sales driven in the first few days after the click than sales that come towards the end of the 7 day cookie period, although we take into account the fact that auctions can take up to 7 days to end.”

    “Examples:
Publisher sites that establish relationships with their users, and keep those users coming back to eBay to buy, will drive better long-term value than sites that send users who shop on eBay once and never visit the site again. For example, a site that highlights great deals on eBay across a broad range of categories or a regularly updated content site about a niche product, will be more likely to drive long-term value than a single page site filled with eBay banners that users visit once and never again.”

So, to my mind, there is no way to calculate your future earnings because we don’t know what commission eBay charge when selling an item, I cannot think of a single employee anywhere who would be happy working for a percentage of an unknown profit that a company makes. And the fact that they actually say that BIN has more weight than auctions makes a complete nonsense of eBay as an auction site.

Therefore does that mean that you are better off selling an item that sells like hotcakes on BIN on eBay for a low price than trying to make money with very tight niche stuff that only a few people would be looking for no matter how tightly focussed your site is?

I asked that but that is one question that was strangely overlooked!

@Cherie – The bottom line with the current payment system is that: “You earn what they decide to pay you”… and if you send BUYERS versus shoppers, you will do much better.
