Using Popshops to add Full Product Pages to your WordPress Website
Many of you saw this post over the weekend, only to be led to a 404 page! :-) I wanted is saved for Friday to give you a fun place to experiment with over the weekend. Without further ado… Lets look how we can use Popshops with WordPress to create full product pages!
What is PopShops?
Imagine if you could combine all of your affiliate networks into one place! CJ, Google Ad network, LinkShare etc, and from ALL of those networks, build product pages with a mashup of items from each! With Popshops, you can do this and more! There is also a WordPress plugin which makes the process of adding unique pages to your site a breeze, so lets get started and add a new product page!
Which Account to Get?
There are a few account types to choose from with Popshops. If you just want to direct your visitors to products, grab the free account and you can generate the javascript code to show products or pages at will. Keep in mind however, with this type of setup, none of the content will be indexed as the content is contained in a javascript, which search engines will not read. I chose and suggest every go for at least the $5/month Pro Account with Popshops. After you setup your account, you can go right into the account screen and imput your CJ, Linkshare, etc, account ID’s, so Popshops can send you credit for the sales!
After you have signed up, you want to go and grab the Popshops WordPress Pluginand install it to your plugin directory of WordPress.
Initial PopShop Plugin Configuration
1 – Grab the plugin and install itto your WordPress plugin directory.
2 – In your WordPress admin, choose Settings > Popshops > and click on the API Key link to configure the plugin and add your credentials in your WordPress administration.

1 – Login to your PopShops Administration, and choose Create New Shop, an click on Go. Name your shop page according to your domain and products that will be displayed on this page. It makes it easier to remember for future use!

2 – In the search box, type a short phrase of the products you wish to feature. During this process, make sure you choose products from the affiliate networks, which you have entered your ID in place.

3 – On the product selection page, choose the products for your page by clicking on Add to the right of each product.

4 – Set your layout preferences to display the products to your liking. Keep in mind the layout of your wordpress site and do not make the display wider than your allotted area!

5 – If you wish to customize the look and feel in more detail, you can click on the “Customize” tab, and either choose from preset styles, or edit them to your own liking.

6 – After you have the layout the way you want, click on the “Pop it In” tab, and choose php from the flavor menu. After selected, you can close the window. I truly don’t even know if this step is needed, but it never hurts to set it.

7 – Create a new PAGE in WordPress, write your content, complete all sections for SEO, basically… just like you would write any other page, but make this one very specific to the products you are about to display!.
8 – After your page is created, go to your WordPress admin PopShop plugin settings page by choosing: Settings > Popshops > . From the options page, choose the “Add a Shop to your Sidebar, footer and more” link.

9 – Choose the correct settings from the dropdown menus, to set this to your new WordPress Page.
-
From available popshops – Choose the page you created at Popshops.
-
Where would you like it to appear – Choose On a Static page
-
What page – The new page you created in WordPress
-
4 – Press the Publish Shop button!

Congrats! – You now have a PopShops product page on your new WordPress Website!

Wow! Another gem!
With the uncertainty of ePN at the moment, and affiliates looking to diversify, this is timely indeed.
Thanks, Mark.
Really great help here thank you Mark-as always I am truly impressed with you knowledge of all this and sharing it.Again thanks
I’ve been messing around with GoldenCan but they have php issues with wordpress. I wanted to give them a try because they have amazon.com integrated
Popshops is by far the best.
I would like an easy way to add individual pages or items from Amazon.com. Anyone know a good plugin for that?
Yay! Great article Mark. I’ve been looking forward to this for a while since I discovered Popshops, but didn’t fully understand how to use it.
Question: do you put Popshops items in your BANS/WP sites? Does eBay object to other ads appearing? I recall reading something about them punishing sites that had too much Google ads or something. Are they compatible, or should you do one or another?
On the Popshops site they have a couple of AWESOME sites all done with Popshops. YOu’d never really guess they were stores, the designs are more blog-like and attractive. But shows what you can do with Popshops!
Mark,
Great post. I had considered PopShops earlier this year but at that time the cheapest real option was $30.00/month. Glad they’ve changed that.
About the networks…I know some of them have an application process for each of their vendors(especially CJ)that requires approval even if you’re already a member of their network.
Does this mean that only the non-joined, or networks that don’t require a review are displayed through the PopShops API?
Jeff
@ Jeff –
An important question!!
In order to receive credit for the sales you MUST be enrolled in the specific vendors program through the related affiliate network!!
In my example video, I chose products from the CJ > Northern Tool program. I am a member of the NT affiliate program and applied for it through CJ long ago.
If I was NOT enrolled through CJ to the specific program, I would not get sales credit!!
Mark
Mark,
I think we just answered the question.
When you put in your various network IDs, PopShops will only display the vendors in each network that you are currently approved for OR that require no separate application process.
Does that sound right?
I just want to make sure that if people sign up for the different networks to be included in the PopShops configuration that they aren’t surprised to see they may not have many choices from some of the networks.
On the positive side, a lot of networks have no separate approval for any of their vendors and will work out of the box once we are approved by them.
Jeff
Mark,
I’ve tried and added the popshop listings JavaScript to my Bans pages and it works great, do you think putting them in your Bans store that way instead of in the WP pages makes any difference? any reason why it would be better not to?
Mark-
This is really cool stuff. I dove into head first this week and I’m pretty fired up about publishing it live this week.
thanks for sharing, may pick your brain more as it progresses.
Glenn
THANKS ALOT, I CAN’T BELIEVE IT WAS THAT SIMPLE…I WAS TRYING TO COPY AND PASTE THE CODE.
