Weekly Roundup of Posts and Just Good Stuff!

After a week of fighting some heavy burnout… I hope to get back on track in the coming week! I have talked to several folks this week via email, and it seems everyone gets hung up in Information Overload every now and again. It got me this past week for sure!! In this post – I want to mention a few great posts I read, along with one or two things we all need to do in the week ahead!

UsefulĀ  Resources for Niche and Link Building

As I was stumbling websites early in the week, I found this gem from 2007 over at the WebGeek site. The Link Building Resources page has MANY great tips on how you can get going on the all important task of gaining votes for your sites, aka, inbound links!

Another utility I found, but not yet used, is the WordPress Article Directory Plugin! I have a site (not diyreviews) that is setup after the “HowTo” visitor… you know, how to do this, how to do that, and I intend to install this plugin at some point this week to see how it works. I looked at several sites running it and it is very interesting!

Since we are into a fresh month, its also a great time to bring up the “Top Commentators Plugin” for WordPress. Many blogs, including mine, use this plugin to reward people who come often and leave comments on the blog. The way it works, is by counting the number of comments by a specific user and listing them in a dedicated, sitewide widget in your sidebar. You can see mine on the right. It is setup to count the comments by the month… and most sites reset at the beginning of each month. To you and I, this is the perfect opportunity to get high value inbound links and participate in discussions that will offer a higher reward!

Open up your web browser, nav to Google and in the search box, type in: “my niche” + “top commentators” (Yes, the quotes and + sign are important!!) In the case of my DIY Reviews site, I searched for: “DIY” + “top commentators plugin” and found this DIY Hacks and Gadgets site, focused on DIY topics. In his right sidebar, I can see that there are only 3 commentators listed, each with 1 comment. His homepage is also a PR4… If I was to provide a useful comment on his site, it is a very easy one way link with great juice!

If you do want to participate in discussions, as always, be real!! Don’t just jump in to get a spot in the sidebar. Also make sure you remember that early in the month, its much easier to get noticed, since as the month passes… the top comments will grow!

The Best Newsletter I have Ever Subscribed To

As many of you know, I won’t write bullshit on this blog! If I don’t like something, I will actually make that clear in the way I review something! Many of you also know I am a fan of Jeremy Schoemaker’s site, Shoemoney.com. Several months ago, Jeremy decided to start a monthly newsletter… I signed up right away and I truly expected to see a simple round-up of the posts on his blog. I have to say, it is the BEST Newsletter I have ever signed onto from an Internet marketing site!

Sure there is a few references to his blog posts, but ever since I started receiving it, I have found gems of hidden knowledge, he does not share in public domain! This month, Nov 1, he shared tips and actual methods, on how to develop relationships in your local market and make some killer earnings! Its very easy to do… and the way he explained and showed actual examples was priceless! He specifically requested we DO NOT republish the info on our own sites, so the only thing I can do is tell you to go get signed up today!! It will take you to the next level in both understanding, and acting on different ways to make money!

Sign up for the Shoemoney Newsletter today!! (Its at the top center of his main page)

Niche Building eBook Review Coming Soon

I was contacted by another member of the blogging community this week about a new ebook he wrote. It is a step-by-step guide on how to research and get started on a niche site. In the book, he referred to this site as a great resource for learning more, which is one of the reasons he sent it to me! :-)

I did not want to come across as biased in my review, so I asked one of my readers to do the review for me, versus doing it myself! Personally, I found the organized method in the way he wrote the book the best part of it! I know how hard it is to find a specific post on blogs, and this ebook takes up quite a bit of the slack and lays it out in an easy to readand follow format! I am not going to say more and will let the review speak for itself tomorrow…

Great Tip on how to use the “Top commentators” plugin. Priceless inbound links can be built this way and you can also discover good resources in your niche subject.
I’ve been reading your blog for some weeks now and I want to thank you for the great tips and information you have here. I learn a lot with your blog!

It’s my first comment here. Why the comment now? because I just saw that one comment could put me in the top commentator list! ;)

Interesting thing about the linkbuilding directories list – I was shocked to see that most/many are paid services! I thought Google had put the kabosh on paid links… Why would anyone want to risk $300 only to get de-indexed? Or am I not getting how this works?

thanks for the link though – linkbuilding is my weakest point. Once I get into it I’m fine, but for some reason I have a huge mental block about getting started. Maybe some kind of “linkers block” … ;-)

    @ Madhu –

I just got the dead link also… It works though, I got the plugin earlier this week and checked it during the post of this article! :-)

    @ Alice –

Some of the best directories out there are paid services. Yahoo Directory for instance, is $299.00, but it carries 100x the weight of a free directory, with maybe exception to DMOZ. (Which takes 299 days to get into!)

  • Alice said:

So I don’t understand why G slammed paid links on people’s websites… how is Yahoo Directory or any of those others different than buying a link from some powersite?? I’m confused!

And if my sites are well indexed by Yahoo, do I really need to cough up $300 for the directory?

Yeah, the dmoz thing is a waste of time. I submitted the first of my sites almost a year ago, and they’re still not in there…

I would have to add my name to that information overload list if you’re making one. Some times I think my head is going to explode.

I used to work every day but eventually dropped it back to 5 days a week and started taking weekends off to spend with my family.

That’s when I realized I was actually getting more done in those 5 days than I was previously working 7 days a week. This fact started my mind spinning through the past and I suddenly realized that the times I allowed my brain to rest for a while and leave things for a bit that when I returned to that task I was much better at it.

Playing guitar was one of those things that helped me understand this. When I would bust my butt to learn new songs and chords I would get to a point where I wasn’t improving, but if I stopped what I was doing and let it go for a day or two I was much better at it when I returned.

So now when I get burned out, which doesn’t happen nearly as often as it used to, I just get away from. My choice of getting away from it is to go fishing for a day or two, that always clears the mind.

    Mark,

In my travels this week, came across this free design tool.

    http://www.xheader.com/

If any others are into designing their own banners, this is a winner.

Pass it on if it meets your smell test. The price is right!!
