WordPress Admin won’t Load? Check the aLinks Plugin
Amazing what just a few minutes of code searching can do when you know where to look! In a nutshell, the website of the aLinks developer, www.headzoo.com, is down. (as of the time of this post)
When your site admin loads, it checks to see which of your plugins are up to date and shows messages in your browser of those which may need to be updated. Well, if the host website is down, your site admin will not get through the entire load process and your admin pages will never load.
If you absolutely MUST get into your site admin NOW, just rename your aLinks plugin folder for the time being. After the headzoo site comes back up, you can reverse the name change and your aLinks will work fine again.
Open your cPanel and go to file manager. Navigate to your wp-content > plugins > alinks folder. Click on top of the folder and choose “rename” from the right side menu and supply a temporary name for the folder. I usually use the original folder name followed by a period and a new name. For example:
Original name: alinks
Temporary rename: alinks.temp
This way, when you jump back in to return the name to the original in 2 days, you don’t have to worry about remembering the original name, its right there!

Hi Mark,
Sorry to hear about your problems … never fun when websites don’t work like they’re supposed to. Although, when my stuff breaks at least it does provide great entertainment to my wife as I’m yelling at my poor computer.
As far as plugins go, you might want to check out SEO Smart Links:
http://www.prelovac.com/vladimir/wordpress-plugins/seo-smart-links
I’ve been using it (although possibly over using it) on one of my blogs for 4 or 5 days now, and haven’t run into any issues.
BTW, I downloaded your SimpleCSS template the other day … thank you very much … that is Exactly what I’ve been looking for ever since I started using BANS. I knew it was possible, but don’t have the expertise to do it myself.
Just out of curiosity, have you by any chance already created additional stylesheets with different color schemes? That is something I “could” figure out on my own … but if it’s already done, paying for it might make more sense than the time it would take me to figure it out.
Thanks again,
Todd
Thank you so much! This has driven me crazy for the last two days. I was about to contact my host (which apparently would have worked) but this saved me so much time. Thank you again :)
@ Todd –
Thanks for the plugin info!! I have not used the smartlinks plugin, although I have read about it.
I have not made any additional color schemes for this yet, but I am in the process of a new template based on the Chimera theme, which has 3 style sheets in different color schemes. I hope to get along with it before the end of the week…
@ Shannon -
I know the feeling!! I was going crazy myself!

I have just swapped from alinks to seo smart links and have to say I much prefer it’s ease of use.
One problem I am having is that none of my blog posts are being indexed as I would like. The Google snippet shows the h1 tags of the blog home page (multiple posts) and various other details rather than the meta description from the all in one seo pack or indeed the first couple of lines of the actual post. Anyone know a way around this?
